This has a chance to be great. Mangold is a quality director.

Tracking points. Ford will be de-aged.

The Empire of Evil?
So, who is Indy fighting in this one? Amazon, Disney, or Apple? |
|
I swore that I'd never give Disney another penny of my money, but if you post a still of Indy punching a hippy I may have to break that vow.

Will he wear his classic outfit in this one? Because why wouldn’t he update his outfit after 30-40 years? Fedoras would have been out of style in the 60s. |
Indiana Jones is not a slave to fashion. He IS fashion.
|
I think you are misremebering his professor outfit a bit. I think the clothes are era appropriate here considering the age of the character:
https://i.imgur.com/fdVa2RR.jpg Speaking of Indy's look - it was lifted from an old Charlton Heston flick. https://i.imgur.com/oFGo375.jpg Secret of the Incas (1954) I'm sure that isn't news to the franchise's biggest fans but it's still interesting to me. The movie isn't that great by the way. |
Quote:
Sean Connery wore a leather vest and similar garb as Quatermain in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It's been the look for adventurers in film for more than 75 years. |
I don't think I can recall seeing any H. Rider Haggard covers that reminded me of Indy. Ones published before Raiders I mean. Stewart Granger had a "slouch" hat in King Solomon's Mines and I've seen some covers that had a similar look to his, but nothing that looked like Indy or Charlton Heston for that matter.

Quote:
Hell, we saw a treasure hunter wearing the same garb (Panama hat, leather jacket) in 1912 in the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It wasn't a unique look to 1954. |

I'm not following you here. It doesn't really matter though. So are there any good Indiana Jones clones? Movies that either inspired or were inspired by Indy? Like Firewalker, the two Richard Chamberlain Allan Quatermain movies from the 80s, Romancing the Stone, San Fernando Jones and the Temple of Poon (2000). I like several movies that took place during the British Raj but I don't know if I would say any of them are really all that similar to Temple of Doom. A few that I like: Stranglers of Bombay The Four Feathers (all versions are good though I'm partial to the one from 1939) The Brigand of Kandahar The Deceivers North West Frontier The Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935) |

White Heat is a great movie. Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye is anotehr good one that Cagney did in that period that people don't seem to talk about as much.

smdh this is just sad at this point. Really wishing Harrison Ford a speedy full recovery but damn he is seriously up there in age and doesn't seem cut out for these action roles (his injuries are proof of that). While I have my doubts about Indy 5 overall, it does have a few things going for it. For one, Mangold is directing it. He is a flat out awesome director and did a great job directing Logan (outstanding send off for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine/X-Men character). Another thing that caught my eye was the casting of Boyd Holbrook ( a really good / underrated young American actor that played one of the main villains in Logan) https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a1/e9...8ead2c3189.gif He was also awesome on Netflix's hit show called Narcos. |
They should make it really good and actually kill him ONSCREEN!!!
|
Maybe they should have gone with Chris Pratt?
|
|
|
|
Rub some dirt on it you gritty old bastard and get back to shooting.
|
Rename it Grandpa Jones 5 he really looks old. Needs to do like Sean Connery and Gene Hackman when they get too old just fade away. Oh and pull his pilot's license before he kills someone. He was a great one but it's kinda over for the action flicks.

Harrison Ford, 79, 'returns to filming Indiana Jones 5'
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbi...a-Jones-5.html I re-watched the first three movies over the last few days. A lot more comedy content than I remembered. Most of it worked but I wouldn't complain if it had been dialed back a bit. Still not a big fan of Temple of Doom. There are just way too many scenes of Willie screaming. As Indy said “The biggest trouble with her is the noise.” The movie would have been a lot better if they had brought Karen Allen back. I never realized that the guy who plays the huge Nazi mechanic who gets killed by the propeller in Raiders of the Lost Ark had multiple roles in the franchise. He also played the big Sherpa at the beginning of Raiders as well as the Indian dude who gets steamrolled in Temple of Doom, and a Gestapo agent in part 3. |
Not having high expectations for this.
|
In response to some of the more violent sequences in the film (Doom), and with similar complaints about Gremlins, Spielberg suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) alter its rating system, which it did within two months of the film's release, creating a new PG-13 rating.
My boys and I love the franchise, I’m watching Skull right now with my 8 year old. I hadn’t seen it until a few weeks ago and I liked it. The “Nazi” angle worked in Ark obv but seemed cartoonish in Crusades, a bit like Inglorious Bastards. Btw when I walked out of Bastards I said to my brother “I didn’t know that’s how Hitler died”. An old couple in front of me looked back like I was an idiot |
|
Next time he's hanging out in Wichita I'll ask him if he's up for an Indy 6.
|
Looks like the Metamucil just kicked in.

Time travel?
Oh boy. Atlantis? Atlantis the Lost Empire already took care of it. So did Carl Barks and Casty in the Disney comics universe. |
Quote:
go play the game Fate of Atlantis. If that was put on screen, it would be a box office smash. Unfortunately Lucasfilm is too dumb to do that, and we're likely getting more Kathleen Kennedy trash. |
If Jones figures how to time travel, why doesn’t he go back to 1930 and kill Hitler? That way he’d save millions of lives and not have to do the whole Ark search.
Then he can travel to India and kill that Golley-Ma Shuckteeday creep. So on and so forth, you get the idea |
Maybe he'll go back to 2007 and stop himself from signing up for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I stopped at the Last Crusade. Doesn't sound like my decision was/is faulty.
