For those that don't know, Global Entry basically allows you to skip customs. You just fill out a form on a kiosk and you're done. There's no waiting in line to talk to a cusoms agent.

I didn't get asked any questions entering Japan in June. If you fill out the declarations form on the plane you just hand it to them, they do a digital passport check, stamp it, and off you go.

Of course, I just travel for fun, so maybe 8-10 flights per year. If I was traveling for work, the extra 3-5 minutes each time would obviously add up.

CLEAR is $109/year for me with my United status. I think it's going to be "free" when I get my new credit card. I fly almost every week so it more than make sense for me.

Did you know that there's a TSA Pre and CLEAR combined lane at DEN? You have to be both. I've seen the TSA Pre lines at DEN. **** that. It's only at the North checkpoint and you kind of have to look for it.

North Security Checkpoint

Primary checkpoint for TSA PreCheck passengers, open 4 a.m.-7:45 p.m.

CLEAR Customers: A CLEAR lane is available on the east side of this checkpoint for travelers who are CLEAR customers with TSA PreCheck.

Eh, the Pre lane looks scary but moves super fast on the North side since they have almost zero general passenger lanes there. I can't ever remember taking more than 10 minutes to get through.

But again, I definitely get that dropping that 10 minutes to 5 minutes would make a big difference if I was flying as much as you are.

100%. But Global Entry includes TSA Precheck, so just get it, IT'S SOOOOOOOO WORTH IT!!! Add lounge and 1st class to the experience and life is good, even on a ground hold...

But yeah, they can be crowded. Still, they almost universally have more comfortable seats than you'll find on a concourse, often have nice views of the airfield, and the expectation is that you'll be there hanging out for a while vs. a restaurant that wants you to get in and get out. I also generally find that I eat healthier food in lounges than I do at restaurants - casseroles, soups, salads, roasts vs burgers and fries.

You don't care about alcohol, I know, but for me that's worth around $15-$20 per person for a couple of drinks compared to what I'd pay in a restaurant.

That said, some lounges suck. I'm excited for United to get all their upgrades done at DEN, as the current lounges there are some of my least favorite I've ever stepped foot in.

100% of all of this... I travel internationally for most of my current trips (I DON'T miss work travel in the least) so I do my best to add some buffer during layovers, and that longer buffer is best spent in a lounge. And while I was an American Airlines loyalist 8 years ago, having met friends who work for United, I'm converted. In the last 8 years they've cancelled only one of my flights, and that was because they were clearing jets out of IAH because of a pending hurricane. Lucky for me, my friends know the system and have contacts and had me booked through to NAS on Delta in an hour. I'm blessed in many ways..

Sky Harbor is fine, especially for how busy it is. They make driving around it easy too. I can pick up someone curb side and drive around the other side to get out without any stop and go traffic. I say that's pretty impressive.

Coincidentally headed into Phoenix today from KC. First time I've been in the new MCI and while I still prefer the old style just because of how easy it was getting in this time wasn't bad at all. Took 20 minutes from being dropped off to being through TSA. Maybe I just got lucky and that's not the norm.

Sitting at the airport getting ready for a 5:15am flight to Norfolk VA via Nashville TN.

Nice and quiet but no bars open until after I leave.

There is a young blonde woman, 26-32 my guess, on this flight with white short cowgirl boots, a very tight pair of blue stretchy shorts on, a sports bra and tank top to hold up her well proportioned rack. If there is a seat next to her when we board I'm jumping in.

Total smokeshow!

No business. Have a pilot running for one of my potential clients in the city. Big opportunity.

Sitting here in Nashville waiting to board.

I got stuck in the window seat and a 300 lb heifer sat next to me and she needed a seat belt extender. She had me pinned against the window for most of the flight. This shit sucks.

Midway 100x out of 100

Only time you should fly into Ohare is if you plan on catching the train into the city and don't need a car

And you're going to drive right by Midway from Ohare anyway so unless there's a significant cost difference, you're choice is clear

Agreed. Midway is a lot easier to navigate, at least if you have a connection. I've mostly used Chicago as a connection point, so I don't know about parking and ground transportation.

Always seemed like a crock that the airlines will charge the hell out of you if your bag is a pound over the limit or if your carry on is an inch too wide, yet the person that outweighs you by 150lbs doesn’t pay extra for their seat.

CHI-O'Hare, ATL, NYC-LaG, PHX-Sky Harbor, LAX, DFW are the worst airports in the US.

Of that group, O'Hare takes the cake for being the worst. NYC-LaG being a close 2nd.

It's basically the spot for a lot of low cost carriers (Frontier, Allegiant, Volaris, etc.). I assume that space at ORD is much more expensive.

Looks like I can go with Southwest into O'Hare Or Midway for about the same cost.

I haven't flown into O'Hare since the 90s. If that answers your question.

I hated every second of O'hare too, but i had been up for about 30 hours and had a 5 hour layover from a transatlantic flight from Munich. Oh, and they changed our gate 3 times and made us sit in the plane on the tarmac for 2.5 hrs. The TSA agent we dealt with was also an asshole.

F that place. Thinking about it makes me want to fedpost.

Midway however was fine, other than it being in the hood.

I had a flight get canceled at O'Hare once, and the airline said they'd put us up in a hotel. We got on a bus, and I think they drove us to Mogadishu. It took an hour to get there, we arrived at midnight, and there was no food available in the hotel at all. The area was pretty downscale and I wasn't going to go wander the streets in search of food in the middle of the night, so I went without.

The sad thing is that I got rescheduled for a really early flight, so I couldn't get any breakfast. I had a really busy morning with one meeting after another since I'd arrived late, and then had a lunch meeting scheduled with another person. I was absolutely famished when I showed up at the guy's office and said, "Ready to go to lunch?" The guy was in his forties, but opened his mouth to show me braces. "I just got my braces adjusted," he said, "so let's skip lunch and just meet here in my office."

I ate very well that evening.

The driver who picked me up from the airport last time I was in KC told me a story about a woman he picked up who had flown into MCI a few weeks earlier and then landed there again. Once she deplaned at the new airport she was hysterical because she thought somehow she got on the wrong flight.

Genuinely think there’s never been an airport upgrade in this country nearly as dramatic.

We're doing a major remodeling project in Denver. If I remember right, they're going to move the main terminal behind security whereas now it's ahead of security. The airport was relatively new when all of the post-9/11 changes hit, so it didn't get to display the original design for very long.

I think they'll also have a viewing area to the underground alien worker area, which will be cool.

You want a really "interesting" airport experience? Check out the Tel Aviv airport some time. It is the epitome of an absolute cluster****. No lines, no ropes/pylons to guide people to queue. It is "gates are open, everyone for themselves!" pure chaos.

If you are a single guy between 19-35 and you aren't spending time in Nashville, you are missing out on some of the hottest women I've seen in a while.

Sitting at The Southern Steak and Oyster in the middle of the terminal and surrounded by hotties.

One of the best burgers I ever had here, the Gouda Burger.

Finishing with a double Glenfiddich so I can sleep from Nashville to Phoenix.

Big success in Virginia. Deal signed off on.

Boarding in 15 minutes.......

I'm sitting in American Airlines Admirals Club here at Sky Harbor in Terminal 4 and it looks exactly like being outside sitting by the boarding area. It's an overcrowded zoo in here.

So much for a relaxing quiet space before my flight. ROFL

They need to add an "exclusive" club lounge inside the club lounge.

What was just as funny was the CLEAR line had about 20 people in it clearing security and yet general boarding I walked directly up to the TSA agent to give my ID and boarding pass.

People revolted when Delta wanted to change their points programs.
Less people would be allowed into executive areas because they were becoming too crowded.

I was traveling to Dallas for Christmas one year, and yeah, it was a zoo. Had a long layover, and was sitting at a gate passing time cause it was vacant at the time. A couple of hours go by, and i move to get in line at my gate and i cant find my freaking wallet that has my license credentials to board the flight. Full panic. I went back to the gate where i was chilling and nothing. It was full of people now so I am screwed for sure. So now I am trying to call the pd to file a report, totally freaking out, and I had put my name in at the lost and found. About 30 minutes go by and my vacation everything is screwed. Call comes in over the PA. For “my name” to go to gate whatever it was. I get there and they had me describe what I lost and the contents, and they had the wallet. An awesome couple from Milwaukee had the Christmas spirit and turned it in. All the cash was still there too. There is a Santa Claus.

I lost my passport in the Bangkok airport. That was fun.

I went to an information booth and they didn't have it. I asked if they could call around. They said no one had it. Finally at the last minute I spotted another information booth. Walked up and it was sitting right on their desk. I had to sprint like a mile and just barely made the flight.

So much for a relaxing quiet space before my flight. ROFL

Hopefully the line isn't that long for the hooker you're flying to see

Crazy, I literaly met the couple and thanked them. Not a lot positive I can say about Milwaukee, but those folks represented Wisconsin well.

The United Club was rather full last Tuesday when I was coming back from Cozumel but it was SOOOOOOOOOO much better than being out in the terminal. It makes 3-4 hour layovers SOOOOO much nicer.

TSA Precheck is 100% worth it in my opinion. I honestly don't understand the value prop of CLEAR, and CLEAR without Precheck shouldn't even exist.

suzzer99 03-02-2024 09:20 PM

I don't understand CLEAR either. Somehow they can afford to pay 5+ people to mostly just stand around at every security checkpoint in the US, and occasionally escort someone to the front of the line. How does that make money?

Thanks for letting us know. I was just wondering.

It's free for me, but it's becoming worthless at many airports. Last time at DEN, I had to answer questions about previous addresses I've lived at, had to get my picture taken and then got a text on my phone that I had to acknowledge. It was ridiculous. Pre Check only now for me.

Every other airline.. assigned seats and mass chaos to be the first to board so you can sit in your uncomfortable seat the longest and have to get up a time or two to let people in the row.

No idea why other airlines haven't adopted a form of Southwest's organization, even if they kept the assigned seating... if for no other reason than early boarders not having to shove their way through people.

The Southwest non-assigned seating s*** is awful. And even if that was great the airline is so awful, unreliable, and trifling.

Trade show but nice try.

Do you realize you spend 1000'xs more time than I do talking about and thinking about my escort exploits from 2011-2014 than I do?

I really think your jealous. I will pay for one for you to sooth your unhealthy obsession.

Isn't your GF putting out anymore?

Sex life dull?

You just aren't doing it for her anymore since you won't marry her? ROFL

He is right. The lineup for the Southwest flight yesterday that was close to my gate was orderly while the mass cluster**** at my gate since flight was 100% full was like a mosh pit at an Insane Clown Posse concert.

I wouldn't know. I'm United 1K. I don't have to line up, unlike peasants like you.

I neither love nor hate Southwest's boarding style. I'd rather have an assigned seat, but I'm good at setting an alarm to remind me to check in exactly 24 hours in advance. I haven't ended up in the C's in years and regularly manage to get in the A's. I appreciate that they don't have all the obnoxious fees of other airlines, seats being one of them.

But I do feel bad for people who get on last and end up having to split up their group because of it. The same thing can happen with other airlines of course, but at least you know it when you book and can make a decision about it.
