I wouldn't invest much emotional capital into that one. This game is probably gonna be a beatdown.

Clark claimed that as of last week the Chiefs had not received notification from the NFL regarding this and last year Green Bay was officially announced as the “visiting team” (as the Chiefs would be) for the Brazil game on April 10th.

Getting passports ready, travel logistics, etc., all the extra time helps.

I was told by someone affiliated with the team a week ago about this game, so they’ve definitely known for a period of time.

And in what world is 4 months not long enough to prepare for something like this?

Clark said right after the draft, the Chiefs were not officially told they were playing in Brazil, so presumably they just found out either last week or today.

The Chargers have known they are playing in Brazil since February.

The Packers as the visiting team received confirmation they were playing in Brazil last year in early April.

So yes the Chiefs are getting less lead time when you compare to other teams.

There is 0 chance they did not have the needed time to prepare for this.

And you listing out everything Clark said publicly as if he would tell the public before the NFL wanted him to is strangely naive.

The media point blank asked him during the post draft press conference if the team had been notified of possibly being selected to play in Brazil, and he said they had not.

That was April 26th.

Even assuming you are correct, I find it hard to sympathize much with the Chiefs on this since they are basically waving their hands in the air for every possible international game they can get every year. I would bet they are plenty happy about this game and it's location.

Bearcat 05-12-2025 01:23 PM

International travel prep time is just about the weakest thing to cry about possible in ****ing May.

Passports.... why the hell would anyone wait for the schedule to be released to get their passport? They schedule international games every season, get your damn passport. Hell, it's probably a checklist item when you get drafted or during the offseason for all players.

Travel logistics... uh, book a hotel that probably already has rooms allocated for the event and get on your private jet? :spock:

This would be something the Jets or Browns or some awful organization would **** up and then we'd laugh at them for being so damn incompetent.

The fact the Chiefs are willing participants in these international games, is more reason for the NFL to reward good partners and ensure equity in the lead time for preparations.

If the Chargers received confirmation on February 19th that they were playing in Brazil this season, then the Chiefs should have as well.

It’s obviously not an insurmountable challenge, but to ignore the fact there are more logistical planning requirements involved to travel/play in Brazil, than in a normal away game, is to use Fat Zach’s term, “naive”.

Most teams will send an advance group of staff to the international location months before the game to plan for the logistics.

When the Chiefs played in Mexico City a few years ago, they made conditioning preparations for the players starting in training camp to prepare for the high altitude (and that game was not until November of that season).

wazu 05-12-2025 01:27 PM

I suppose the Chiefs are getting kinda screwed in that they have 3 fewer months than the Chargers to learn Portuguese.

No. I don’t think the NFL wants to make a permanent Christmas team. Because what happens when that team isn’t good anymore? Like with the Lions and Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Every team goes thru ups and downs. The Chiefs are just the hot hand right now.

Detroit sucked for years and years...and still pulled ratings on Thanksgiving. If the Chiefs pull XMas day until the end of Mahomes career (another 10-12 years)...they will become the staple. People will expect it, and will tune in anyway.

Only way I can see the schedule release being exciting is if you’re wanting to attend a game.

If you’re already a season ticket holder or you’re from out of town or just prefer to watch the games on tv, this shouldn’t get you excited at all. If it does, then whatever, have fun I guess. But some people treat this like a giant surprise. “WTF why did the NFL give us this hard of a schedule??!!” Uhh… you knew the opponents and the home/away matchups as soon as the season ended, dingus

Maybe it's just me but I dislike the Chiefs playing on Christmas.

Hate it.

Hate the stupid Friday night opener too

The Chiefs want to play on Christmas every year.

I also hate Christmas games. Friday night opener I see as kind of a bonus, though. It's a mini-bye tacked onto the beginning of the season that doesn't involve any short rest.

Yea it's really stupid...Christmas isn't Thanksgiving where you just cook and have family come over...Christmas is much time involved honestly and having to be invested in a game that is on when there are 500 things going on is frustrating.

Yeah, I'm beat from the presents and the kids in the morning through early evening.

Oh well, whatever.

So they've got the Vikings invading England and Ireland. Is that a nod toward history, or is it a lack of knowledge of history?

Good news, they play on the 26th for you.

We are going 20-0 anyway so it's likely the #1 seed will be sewn up by then. I'm normally passed out by 8pm after cooking Christmas dinner for 10 people and drinking for 10 people.

Mile High Mania 05-13-2025 03:55 PM

Personally, I’m in favor of no games on Christmas. But, you’ll never get their hands off that money grab at this point.

It's not quite a nod to history. The first English Kings (especially Æthelred the Unread) paid the Vikings an insane amount of gold to leave England alone. In this instance the Vikings are getting paid a shit load by Goodell to invade our Isles.

You two are on the same page.
