They are soem serious fighters in that river as well. Every one of them came flying out of the water and gave me a nice tail dance.

I hit the Yellowstone on the way home today, but it was a little dirty from the runoff so not that great. Anyone else nailing any?

I'll let you know sometime Sunday night. The wife and I are headed to Truman this weekend. The warm weather we've had this week should have the crappie ripe 'n' ready! :thumb:

BTW, I transferred my pale ale to the secondary last night and I had a little taste of the sample I took to measure the SG. It wasn't too bad so I put the sample in the freezer to cool it down quickly. Damn, I must say it tasted pretty f***ing good for flat beer. This may be my best batch yet!

Well, the great Crappy hunt of ’06 didn’t turn out so hot.
The theory was sound, it’s the practical application that didn’t work out. Weather shifted on my overnight and the fish just stopped bit’n all together.
Oh well, gonna try again tomorrow morning. Gonna drag the boat out to a local mud hole, what we Kansans affectionately refer to as a “lake”, and try it again.

Anyone know of any decent fishing holes around the KC area? Relatively new here, and don't have a clue where to go.

Went back home (north-central KS), a few weeks ago and hit my old crappie pond..... it was right before a big thunderstorm, and the crappie were going crazy. I caught all I could possible eat, and started throwing them back. What a blast.....

what part of town are you in? Smithville Lake up by the airport has some decent crappie fishing. As does Truman Lake down around Clinton. It's less than an hour away if you live south.

Good timing as well with the hot weather right around the corner. I spent the night at my brothers house in Idaho falls two nights ago and had "one two many tasty cold beer beverages. :shake: Had a head like a bastard rat when I woke up. Thank God I made it to the Madison by yesterday afternoon and I was able to heal myself in the blue water trout stream.

I'm in the Waldo district, couple miles straight south of the Plaza. Not really to far for me to drown a worm or 3.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can find em, and let you know if I caught anything......

The Friday fishing report. How is everyone doing on the water? I'm heading out tomorrow to try my luck again.

I once caught two bass on one hook at the same time. Figure the big one was trying to eat the little one who was trying to eat my bait. I have a picture to prove it. It was pretty cool.

I love to fish and drink beer. Just don't get to do it often enough. Fish that is.

Last Sunday at Truman sucked large as far as crappie fishing went. My wife caught 3 small ones and I caught 1 keeper about 15 minutes before we were ready to leave. That was it. There was a front that came through the night before, before that all the fishing reports looked really good. Just my luck. Also, it was windier than hell and I got sunburnt on top of everthing else. I guess I was too busy not catching fish to bother with putting on sunscreen. :shake:

All in all though, it was still better than any day at work. :thumb:

On a more positive note, a friend invited me to head out to a farm pond last Friday night that was overstocked. The crappie were hitting pretty good so I brought home a nice bag of filets.

We'll be heading back down to Truman for some more crappie huntin' next weekend.

Oh yeah, I bent the hell out of my prop last weekend when the wind blew me up on some rocks, so that's gonna cost me $110 to get fixed. :cuss:

I went a few times during the two weeks I was down at my parents' house for the ordeal with my father, since they live on a lake. The fishing sucked for some reason. I did get into a bunch of crappie right at dusk up against a rip rap retaining wall we have on our property. Caught three in as many casts, then broke my fly off. It was too dark to retie and tye mosquitoes were getting bad. The crappie were really small anyway, so I didn't care.

I'm supposed to go out Sunday. I haven't decided what to fish for yet. Hopefully I can get into some white bass, but more likely I'll be targeting smallies.

Chiefnj 04-21-2006 09:08 AM

It's trout season in the east. My best so far was a bow a little over 20" in NY. In NJ it's all the stockies you want (10"-11") if you put in the time. It's been pretty windy making lake fishing somewhat unappealing (to me anyway). I don't mind cold or heat or rain but very windy days bother the heck out of me.

Iowanian 04-21-2006 09:13 AM

If a turkey dies tomorrow within 30 yards of me, I'll be testing the largemouth population sat evening or sunday.

My son caught this largemouth out at Lake Ray Roberts last weekend. It's his largest bass so far and he actually landed it on his own.

He's not in the witness protection program yet, so no need to hide his face. ;)
