They didn't really draft him. It's all a smokescreen. David Glass is too cheap. They know he isn't going to sign so they're just saving money.

If Bundy is the high-risk high-reward pitcher of the draft, Bubba Starling is the very high-risk huge-reward position player of the draft.

According to the scouting reports, he's got the highest upside of anyone in the draft: a 5-tool center fielder with power. But, he's a high schooler who faced weak competition. The odds are against him hitting the peak of his upside, but if he does, look out.

Nats go BPA

Rendon gingerly lifting his shoulder to hug his family. LMAO

Starling's upside is unlimited, no doubt. The floor is a little lower, but don't forget that his stock skyrocketed because he was a standout in the U-18 games last summer.

And the Nationals are putting together some SICK talent. Rendon, Harper, Strasbourg. Wow.

The Royals gonna give him 7 mil?

DeezNutz 06-06-2011 05:42 PM

Damn good couple of selections for AZ.

Now please screw things up, Cleveland.

He's not going to Nebraska. 5-6 will do it.

This in a nutshell illustrates how little the Royals care about money these days in the draft. Starling will need a boatload of cash to give up on possibly becoming Nebraska's QB. There may be some negotiation and a brief delay to sign, but the royals would not have picked him if they weren't ready to pay.

Will be interesting to see what they do. I think all the guys they were linked to heavily are gone.

I could see them going C Blake Swihart. Or possibly RHP Sonny Gray.

Where did I say he was again?

I have failed to find one analyst, talking head, or message board nerd in the baseball world who hated the Starling pick. The reaction ranges from a low of "don't care, its the royals, they always lose lol" to "either the best or second-best player in the draft just got picked at #5 because of a dumb early run on pitchers".

Apparently, Moore and the Boras Group guy working with Bubba go back a long ways, too. He'll sign.

And... if you're willing to go $6 million for a 1B like Eric Hosmer, $6 million for a guy who profiles not only as an offensive stud from the right side but also a Gold Glove-caliber defender in the second-most important defensive position is not a problem.

Suggesting 7 doesn't imply that there is a possibility?

He's just another big money player whom the Royals took at the top of the draft. Same shit, different year.

What we need are some big time rewards from these expenditures.
