How are you going to leaad without respect? |

Well, a player who holds up the team bus because he's sitting in the locker room crying probably doesn't get a lot of respect.

The Chiefs had 6 and won 2 games. The Panthers had none and ended the year on a 4 game winning streak. The best player on his team is a 5'2 WR who was born during the Carter administration and is a known malcontent. Sorry if he hurt their feelings by saying that his team doesn't have enough talent to compete. |

Since when did Newton's surrounding talent become a legitimate issue?
DeAngelo Williams is declining, but he's been a consistent 4.5+ YPC back. Stewart is a good power back who missed time last year. Olsen is far better than anything we have at TE, and Steve Smith is a great option. He also has one of the best centers in football, and Jordan Gross used to be a damn near elite LT (not sure about now). His defense sucks, and their WR depth is lacking, but it's not like he doesn't have options. Brandon LaFell is a **** of a lot better than Baldwin. |

But the question to start all this bullshit is would you trade the chiefs #1 for cam, right now? Some are so convinced it would be dumb to pick cam over geno. |
WRT: Newton's character
This is a nuanced issue, so it's automatically doomed to failure on the internet, but **** it. Tons of elite athletes aren't choir boys. Drinking or doing socially acceptable drugs (which is exactly what cocaine was in the 80s) and womanizing is a part of that culture and will generally happen when young men have wealth and fame. That's an entirely different animal than being a backup college QB and stealing laptops, trying to frame another student for plagiarism that you committed, pimping yourself out to college for a six figure payout, or Cammy Cam Juice. |
I guess opinions differ, but when your best skill position player is a 33-year old, I think that sucks.
The OL issues are huge. They gave up 146 QB hurries. By comparison, the Chiefs allowed 106. |

I wouldn't trade the #1 for him either. Pioli poisoned the character well. Because he was such an abject failure we assume that now character doesn't matter. It absolutely does. Pioli's problem was that he targeted character guys without talent to shoehorn into an antiquated scheme. You can't win with a team that has the character of the '93 Cowboys in an parity-driven league because you can't horde enough talent to overcome the one who sucks the penisy. The ranks are thin, as a result, a team needs dependable players. I'm not advocating for the Tebowification of a team, because again, you must have talent, but I don't think you want Cam Newton in your foxhole. |

The fact he is an asshole who would incense half our moronic fanbase is a bonus. |
Especially out of the QB position. That is probably the one position where character is most important. We're not talking about finding a team captain to play nickel corner. And it's not necessarily about the things Roethlisberger, etc. did off the field. It's more about not throwing everyone under the bus in press conferences, pouting, etc. The QB has to be the leader of the team. I'm not going to close the book on Newton by any stretch but it's not unfair to say he comes across as a bit too immature in this area.

I thought one of pioli's only bright spots was high character guys, team captains. Now we can't bring in talent instead of drafting an unknown? You are bending to CPeer pressure.
