This is going to end up biting huge ass.
What are the odds that someone who commits almost 30% of their total money to one CB is going to stick with this beyond the FA Auction? Not saying Carlos won't, but the odds are pretty slim. In contrast, look at the top QBs in the NFL and the % of their team's cap they account for: Player % Of Team's Cap Space 1) Eli Manning 16.9 % 2) Matt Stafford 16.9 % 3) Peyton Manning 16.2 % 4) Drew Brees 14.1 % 5) Philip Rivers 13.9 % 10) Mike Vick 9.9 % 20) Cam Newton 4.87 % I don't know how to correct it, but this auction could affect these leagues for years. League 1 7 year contracts: Richard Sherman CB Richmond Tigerhawks 365 0:04:00 BID Victor Cruz WR Portland Rhein 261 1:22:51 BID Brandon Browner CB Fort Worth Drifters 171 2:10:45 BID Chris Harris Jr. CB Chula Vista cripplas 160 2:21:20 BID Vontaze Burfict WLB Chula Vista cripplas 160 2:07:57 BID Brandon Myers TE Denver Broncos 140 0:04:09 BID JoLonn Dunbar WLB Chula Vista cripplas 125 0:05:11 BID Desmond Bryant DT Clearwater Donkeys 115 1:00:15 BID Tarell Brown CB Clearwater Donkeys 115 1:04:28 BID Michael Bennett DE4 Denver Broncos 110 1:07:48 BID Stevie Brown FS Austin Armadillos 107 2:12:29 BID Jerrell Freeman ILB Topeka Tyrannicide 101 2:23:10 BID League 2 7 year contracts: Brandon Browner CB Los Angeles Knights 300 2:15:38 BID Richard Sherman CB Topeka Thugs 260 2:09:21 BID Chris Harris Jr. CB Pembroke Pines Patteeus 160 2:21:42 BID Vontaze Burfict WLB Aurora Borealis 150 0:11:46 BID Marshall Newhouse LT Round Rock TambaTornado 145 2:13:35 BID Jordan Gross LT Fort Collins Horseteeth 110 2:11:32 BID Brandon Myers TE St. Louis spiders 100 1:11:31 BID |
The contracts don't work that way. Everyone will have the same amount of money to spend on free agents next year, too, pending rollover from leftover money this year.

I like this game and all but this free agency is flawed, you have people with tons of money that wait til the last second to bid up players that are not theirre first choice just so they don't lose them.

The flaw is he's about 17 years old and has no patience.

Thats what free agency is, you have to take risks and you have to pinpoint the guys you want. Throwing lots of money at one guy and then he signs elsewhere so you throw money at your number 2 guy is not how it works in the NFL.

I'm sure the process can be improved, but I don't see much merit in your complaint. |
The prices can only go up, so the money will run out at some point. If you want it to go faster, simply bid more so the prices go up faster.

It's a lot easier to say "**** it!" and quit playing than it is to try to fix that. |

I have a lot of FA dollars because I'm planning for the short term. Brady's getting old so I'm basically on a 3-year run to win the championship, and then I plan on blowing the team up. Hence, no one on my team is signed longer than 4 years. Will this come back to bite me? We'll see, but it's going to be awhile before that comes to pass. I'm planning on sucking anyway. |
