I never had Steve Gregory?

This is going to end up biting huge ass.

What are the odds that someone who commits almost 30% of their total money to one CB is going to stick with this beyond the FA Auction?
Not saying Carlos won't, but the odds are pretty slim.

In contrast, look at the top QBs in the NFL and the % of their team's cap they account for:
Player % Of Team's Cap Space
1) Eli Manning 16.9 %
2) Matt Stafford 16.9 %
3) Peyton Manning 16.2 %
4) Drew Brees 14.1 %
5) Philip Rivers 13.9 %
10) Mike Vick 9.9 %
20) Cam Newton 4.87 %

I don't know how to correct it, but this auction could affect these leagues for years.
League 1 7 year contracts:

Richard Sherman CB Richmond Tigerhawks 365 0:04:00 BID

The contracts don't work that way. Everyone will have the same amount of money to spend on free agents next year, too, pending rollover from leftover money this year.

TambaBerry 06-13-2013 09:11 AM

I like this game and all but this free agency is flawed, you have people with tons of money that wait til the last second to bid up players that are not theirre first choice just so they don't lose them.

Where is the flaw?

Hammock Parties 06-13-2013 09:17 AM

The flaw is he's about 17 years old and has no patience.

TambaBerry 06-13-2013 09:18 AM

Thats what free agency is, you have to take risks and you have to pinpoint the guys you want. Throwing lots of money at one guy and then he signs elsewhere so you throw money at your number 2 guy is not how it works in the NFL.

It is how it works in the NFL, we are just doing it slower....think of it as the agent on the phone with one team while he has 4 others on hold to see who gives the most.

Hmmm. Miami tried to throw a lot of money at Jake Long this off-season. When he signed with the Rams, they turned their sights toward Branden Albert. When that didn't pan out they moved on again.

I'm sure the process can be improved, but I don't see much merit in your complaint.

MagicHef 06-13-2013 09:50 AM

The prices can only go up, so the money will run out at some point. If you want it to go faster, simply bid more so the prices go up faster.

Right. If a team has allocated 30% of it's 1300 dollars to one player, then it stands to reason that there are areas being ignored to afford that player. If 50% of your team is on one year contracts, allowing you to be aggressive in FA this year, next year's allocation won't cover the holes left by players leaving.
It's a lot easier to say "**** it!" and quit playing than it is to try to fix that.

Heh. I see your point. It would be interesting to know how some of these teams have structured their roster.

I have a lot of FA dollars because I'm planning for the short term. Brady's getting old so I'm basically on a 3-year run to win the championship, and then I plan on blowing the team up. Hence, no one on my team is signed longer than 4 years.

Will this come back to bite me? We'll see, but it's going to be awhile before that comes to pass. I'm planning on sucking anyway.
