It would be incredible if Greinke was extended to 2014 along with Soria...that would give the kids time enough to be seasoned a little in the majors.

Is that possible?

Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby.

fine. People are going nuts about the price we are asking, but its really not THAT much higher than the picks we'd get anyway. Pay us or dont, we'll have even less incentive to deal next year.

If the team is asking for a package the equivalent of Snider and Drabek from everyone, that's WAY higher than the two picks they'd receive.

I would not say WAY higher, but we should be asking for higher. Not equal, not just a little higher, but decently higher or theres no good reason to do the deal, ESPECIALLY since its not a forgone conclusion that Greinke wont re-sign.

Three different teams just fell over themselves trying to give a pitcher on the wrong side of 30 a 5-7 year deal for over $100MM, maybe it sounds too high to you, but you simply can not tell me that its not a good idea to ask for a lot, given the reality of the market.

I didn't know the draft class was looking that weak in a couple of years...

Exactly, it is possible that we hang on for two years and by that time we have a couple young guys turn into studs and Greinke and his therapist decide to stay.

This isn't basketball, the success rate of a 1st round pick isn't high. Most of them don't end up turning out to be anything, let alone top 10 prospects in baseball.

:spock:

kenpom indicates that you missed the fact that I was joking. But I'm glad that we cleared up that baseball isn't basketball. There were some confusing moments there for a second.

You have been bashing Snider and Drabek nonstop for weeks now, how am I supposed to know when you are joking or not?

Slight overstatement. I think they're nice prospects, but that's it. I wouldn't want them as the key pieces to a deal, though.

Then I'd prepare to be disappointed, because I doubt the Royals get anywhere near that much value for Greinke.

Just to make another basketball reference....Carmelo's apparently not a fan of the Royals.

gblowfish 12-16-2010 12:58 PM

Can Carmello hit? Can he draw a walk every once in awhile?

LMAO. We have Pat White we might as well get Melo in the minor league system. It's all about depth.
