Yeah, I don't think this is even remotely close to anything I've suggested.

But one of his detractions you brought up was something he couldn't actually accomplish. ie hasnt won with his recruits

Just thought it was funny like...the bell curve of criticism.

Tell that to Scott Drew and Rick Barnes.

Bowser, so you think Self won the Coty based on his name alone?

No, you're right that Haith can't do a heck of a lot more at this point.

I'm enjoying this season for sure and am cautiously optimistic about how he'll be able to develop the program further.

I know it's poor form to answer a question with a question, but do you think Self was a better coach than Haith this year?

Self won 2 more league games no?

O.city 03-04-2012 04:34 PM

Self returned 1 starter, had a couple recruits ruled ineligible.

I think Haith done a great job. Really, a great job. That said, he did inherit a senior laden team.

What makes you think Haith was that much better than Self?

DeezNutz 03-04-2012 04:37 PM

If there's a two-way split, which is weak, one could make a case for a three-way split:

Self: continues to win the conference.
Haith: most reg. season wins in school history.
Mayor: one of the best turnarounds in conf. history.

Hard to pick here.

Right now, things are pretty damn good.

I don't know. We are currently very high on Julius Randle's list and that is worth something.

Kind of like what I said earlier - how Haith took Anderson's guys and turned them into contenders when Anderson couldn't. Self is a great coach, that isn't debatable. I just think Haith did more than Self this year, especially considering his roster and expectations.

Had Haith won in Lawrence, he most likely would have won the award, but he didn't.

I think year over year win totals might tell you something.

Then there's that. The inexcusable loss to OSU and losing to you guys in Columbia helped not at all.

DJay23 03-04-2012 04:40 PM

It's splitting hairs, but Mizzou had 4 players on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team plus 6th Man and KU had 2 first teams and a 3rd team. According to the coaches Haith had more to work with and still lost the league by 2 games.

How many of those players were selected the year before Haith began coaching them? In-game coaching is part of the equation, but so is player development.

When you consider expecations at the start of the year the coaches picked Mizzou 4th and KU T-1st so in that regard Haith did a better job.
