I don't have a dog in the fight, but it's hard for me to believe that Williams couldn't have accumulated 13 catches over 15 games if given the opportunity.

Smells like another classic case of a coach playing favorites with a veteran they have years of experience with.

Agreed.

Fred Williams or Da'Ron Brown deserved that spot, IMO.

To avant's defense: he brings in hard work and is a model of discipline in a league where players without respected veterans to guide them often turn into spoiled ****s who show little respect to their coach and become locker room messes. He's a good soldier and having both him and Maclin around emphasizes what Reid expects out of his players: loyalty, hard work, and discipline.

Avant is the Chiefs Jeremy Guthrie

It's called trusting what goes on the field and definitely off the field and that is golden in the long run regardless of stats especially if you can afford to do so which Andy feels he can.

Then, as I've said for a year, hire him to coach.

Don't pay him a $1 million per year to "mentor".

You need guys in the trenches to be the good solider.

You don't want all of the people on one side of the fence. You need guys in the locker room who are supportive of the coach and his decisions versus all of those guys being "bosses" and creating division in that manner.

It's a smart and good move to have a guy like Avant in the locker room, on the ground with the troops to keep up the morale.

On the surface, yes to both your points. However, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes at practice that apparently Andy still doesn't trust yet in crunch time with both these guys.

I think Avant sucks, period.

The roster isn't improved because he's their 3rd or 4th or 5th WR, or whatever.

I've been on and off CP this week so may have missed it. Have they announced who replaces DAT's roster spot yet?

No, it's not. But the locker room is. The team's morale is. Thus it's wise to have a guy like Avant there versus some dillhole, snot nosed rookie who doesn't have the first idea about professionalism in that position versus a guy who has always been noted as a locker room, team first leader.

Somebody is going to be that 4/5 WR guy who is going to see just as many touches as Avant has this season. You might as well make it a guy who is bringing in experience, positiveness and understanding versus a dickhead know nothing.

That's my theory. The 4/5 WR isn't going to see much action, but he can be a mentor.

Not that I've seen.

Should be happening anytime today I'd imagine

BossChief 01-02-2016 02:01 PM

Andy Reid said that they placed Deanthony Thomas on the NFI list and CLEARLY said it isn't in any way concussion related. He said he couldn't answer any other questions about Thomas.

Sounds like someone wanted to go out after midnight on nye.

And then said he's not getting played in 2016.

I'm doubting either of those had anything to do with football, sounds like he has woman issues

There may be things that Fred Williams (who I really thought looked good in pre-season) that we don't see. Maybe he gets confused. Maybe he consistently drops the ball in practice. Maybe he runs the wrong routes frequently. He seemed to have some skills but maybe, with the upside so small for whoever is playing the 4th or 5th WR, the potential for disaster from not knowing what to do is greater than putting a dude who, while slow and unable to create much in the way of plays, won't screw the pooch at a bad moment and cost the Chiefs a game.

May just be a "he may suck a little, but the other guy sucks a lot" situation.

The reporters followed up shortly after and asked Reid if Thomas would be a Chief in 2016 and Reid said he didn't know and they question would have to go to Dorsey.
