If that is the case then i may hold off using the BR till there is a new firmware update...im surprised they haven't addressed this more

Well, like I said, that is only my hypothesis based on things I am reading. I could be way wrong too. I will probably hold off on movies for a while just to be safe.

The trouble started with Uncharted and has now reportedly grown to encompass all manner of media fed into the PlayStation 3 disc drive. The comments section of PlayStiaton Blog's Firmware 3.01 announcement has been overwhelmed by user reports of disc drive errors since Firmware 3.00 and 3.01 were released; most commonly, read errors reportedly occur when running Blu-ray games or movies, but in some alleged cases plain old DVDs are not working either.

Eurogamer has reached Sony for comment, and the console manufacturer has disavowed responsibility for the apparent drive failure, declaring it "not an issue with the firmware." In other words, corresponding repair costs are currently placed squarely on the shoulders of the affected consumers.

If this is truely global than they better do something about it, i think it's total horse shit that they'd expect people without warrantied systems from stores to pay them to fix their system that their update ****ed up.

I'll be honest i believe i have used blurays on both ps3's since its been updated to 3.00 and it worked fine, but i haven't tried it since updating 3.01...and my other ps3 is still on 3.00

You have the best safeguard at least. You purchased one of those extended warranties that I never use money on. In this case, you have a valuable safety net.

Yeah, i feel i shouldn't be bitching as much as those that don't have that luxury, but as gamers we shouldn't have to worry about this shit and there will be people that will update their systems thinking it will run better to find out it may be ****ed up later, esp the wii people.
I have a feeling i will go ahead and try to watch a bluray movie this weekend and i am fortunate that i spent the extra cash on 4 year warranties for both systems incase stupid shit like this were to happen. As for the Wii, i don't have a warranty on that where i can just flip it for a new system, but it is nice to know nintendo will fix it for free and own up to their shit, lets hope sony follows.

Well, the kids popped in Indiana Jones tonight and the PS3 had no problems at all.

On my other ps3 that is the 3.00 version im watching wolverine as we speak, it has ran fine, ive decided to update this one when 3.02 comes out instead of getting 3.01 uncharted works fine on this one and apparently that was the complaint about 3.00

My son was playing uncharted yesterday and today and we were getting constant freezes. We are at 3.0. Supposedly 3.01 is supposed to fix uncharted. I just bought the slim when it came out and I am afraid to update it and it break on me.

Supposedly that was the issue on 3.0 and 3.01 does 'fix' it but you may just be better off waiting for 3.02 so it hopefully resolves that possible bluray disc error. hope they send out a patch soon...

I guess you could update to 3.01 if your son wants to play games and just avoid playing bluray movies, cause i am waiting on that for mine with 3.01 ps3 i have, dvds and uncharted worked fine on it. The 3.00 version ps3 (my bedroom ps3) had uncharted work fine on it, so i thought id wait to update since its running everything including blurays fine. weird....the bedroom ps3 is a 40gb version and the living room ps3 is a 160gb 'uncharted' bundle version, so i dont know if the new ps3s are effected more or the old ones? It seems the reports don't specify or if it matters...

I haven't really noticed in the reports if the slim is more affected than the other consoles so I can't really advise you on that. If you are not watching any movies on it or if you can wait a while to watch some movies then go ahead and upgrade.

I didn't know my kids popped in a BD so it was just a happy moment that everything worked like a charm. Had it been up to me, I wouldn't have let them put the movie in.

Anyone try out Demon's Souls yet?

Wow - very unique, fun game. I may have to pick it up after playing it at a friends house. It is an action RPG, where you travel through a fantasy type world fighting enemies - and other players can leave "hints" , and what is even more fun is you can watch how other players die at certain points. Very funny.

When do you think the next Grand Theft Auto will come out?

Picked up Uncharted 2 tonight. However I am in Boulder, CO. and won't be home till Friday night. I see an all nighter coming up.

Stuck on the first stealth mission. God I hate stealth.

I beat the stealth mission easily...suprised i did so well honestly. Probably beginners luck.....this game kicks ass, im about an hour into it

I keep getting caught on the final three that are standing at the top of the small stairwell.

Be patient...i can't even remember that part since past it so quick, it gets harder after that, remember the button to roll cause you'll need it big time. Hope you past that, if not get me a screen shot so i can see what you're talkin about hehe

Its the courtyard with the fountain in it.

Did you jump in the fountain and take out that guy? then grabbed the guy next to the fountain on the balcony?

The guy next to the fountain is easy. The guy on the balcony keeps getting alerted to my presence so I just skip him and take down the two on the far left of the courtyard then the one in the very back. All that is left is the guy with his back turned on the balcony, the guy at the top of the stairs shining his flashlight around and the guy up the next set of stairs standing there doing nothing.

its hard without me seeing but did you pull the guy off the balcony by chance to the right of the fountain after you take the fountain guy out? when you get remotely close you can beat them up as well

Thats the thing. Everytime I climb up on the flower box to pull him down from behind he turns around. makes no sense since I can walk right up behind any other guard and just stand there an they don't move.

When you are actually standing on the flower box (if i recall) do you press the square button from there, rather than climbing? cause you should be able to just straight pull him off, he never saw me

Well, my old fat PS3 60GB finally bit the dust. I was playing Uncharted 2 and then BLIP, the game went off. At first I thought it was a power outage, but the TV was still on. I tried turning the back power switch on and off, but the front PS3 light will flash from red to green and then off a second later.

What sucks more? My Uncharted 2 is stuck :(

I'm slightly hesitant since the guys on CAG were saying not to bite in this one until it hits 5 bucks. Sounds like it is extremely short and hardly any real weapons upgrades which was a huge part of Tools of Destruction.

Haven't had a chance to play today. Too busy moving stuff back into my basement.
