Father's Day.
And we're officially in the cellar.
Whoop-ee.

Royals are finally in last. Took them long enough...everyone still think 100+ losses?

I'm thinking 92 or in that area. Low 90's.

Had them pegged for 106 losses before the season started. Not sure if they'll sink that low, but 95 to 100 is a distinct possibility.

I think we're about to reach the part of the season where people will start to turn on the young guys.

I hope not. There are a few guys who deserve it. Davies being at the top of the list.

nah.....can't really say this team is designed to know how to win now....there gonna take some bumps and bruises.....plus our pitching is just ****ing awful

Knowing how to win is an overused idea I think. You only 'learn how to win' once you have a team that's talented enough to win. And this team doesn't have the pitching for that.

I think it's a real good sign that they're as competitive as they are with the staff they have. They're not getting blown out of games the way I expected that they would, because, aside from that stretch in May, they can score runs.

I would hope people don't turn on the young players (well, those people who haven't already) because they're what's going to make this year interesting and the next couple of years fun. That's one of the main difference between this year and past "look to the future!" Royals teams: Hosmer and Moose and Escobar, guys just scratching the surface. And then guys like Butler and Frenchy, who even when his bat's cooled is still making plays like his assist at second in the 9th.

The pitching is just terrible, there's no other way to put it. We can have a loaded lineup, but if the pitching continues to stink then we will never win.

Unfortunately, the buildup of our great future pitching staff appears to have been a mirage. Duffy looks mediocre, Lamb is hurt, Dwyer has been garbage, and Montgomery has sucked (and I fully expect it to come out shortly that he has been pitching through a major arm injury).

So much for building through pitching; pitching is the currency of baseball; blah blah blah....Moore has built this team for five years, and it is inexcusable that our pitching is this craptastic at this point in the development timeline.

That is why any and all hitters should be available from this team for good starting pitching. Hosmer will be a starting point for most teams if you want to acquire an ace I believe.

Hosmer no. You don't trade that type of player for an ace, too much can go wrong with pitchers.

I do understand your point completely though. Short of Hosmer and probably Moose anyone/everyone including Relief Pitchers and closers should be on the block for quality starting pitching.

As I've mentioned before, all of our top prospects who were position players were absolute garbage in '09, and there was obviously a rebound with these guys.

We have to hope that the same happens for our pitchers.

I'm not as down on Duffy at this point. Yesterday was my biggest disappointment because muscle cramps are generally avoidable with proper prep work (hydrating days before the start). Dude just didn't do the necessary pre-game things to help his team.

Your right about the cramps and like you said his stuff looks good. Control has been a bit of a problem but you have to expect a young starting pitcher to struggle.

Dr. Johnny Fever 06-20-2011 08:28 AM

I'm not sure you can call Duffy mediocre when he strikes out 9 in under 4 innings. He obviously has good stuff. Learning to use it, gaining control, not being so all or nothing like he seems to be is all part of most young pitchers learning process. There aren't many Lincicums.
