Think I found it.

Peterson - was 26 in 2011 when he tore his ACL and was 27 when he had the 2097 yd season. He had another injury at 29 and his last legit great season was at age 30.

Owens - a broken fibula isn't what I'd call concerning. Considering he played on it. Cold Beasley played the playoffs with a broken fibula. Plus that's only 1 injury and it wasn't even severe enough to be detrimental to his play.

Boldin - I'll give you this one, but I wouldn't give up a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and pay him $16 mil a year for his production after the his injury. I'd give up a 5th and be willing to pay $10 mil/yr for Hopkins, but that's not happening.

Jerry Rice - No one is Jerry. Dudes a unicorn and would do things no one could ever dream of at the position.

I'm pretty sure I brought up Jerry Rice in the initial post, but he doesn't count because he's Jerry ****ing Rice. Boldin fits I guess but it's not like he was putting up elite or even great numbers. He wouldn't be worth what it will take for Hopkins.

Um, hello? AP also ran for over 1,000 yards at age 33, and nearly another thousand the next year at 34. And let's not forget that RBs take a ton more punishment than just about any other player, so what he did was remarkable.

Lol, TO being disrespected even now. And how would you know how bad an injury a broken fibula is?

Who cares what you would take for Boldin? I don't think we're in any danger of you being GM anytime soon.

Jerry Rice was a unicorn, but he was human at the end of the day. He was seriously injured after 30, then reinjured that knee within a year. And still posted multiple 1,000 yard season afterwards. Since we can agree that he was an actual human being, he counts as rebuttal for this argument.

So yet again, we've satisfied the parameters of your argument. You said that you couldn't think of anyone that had a serious injury after 29 that went on to have success, I provided several.

Please refrain from bringing this up again, and thank you.

Travis Kelce has minor surgeries that haven't been detrimental to his play. Players have surgeries all the time. Travis Kelce hasn't had season ending injuries since his rookie season.

10 surgeries and he's 34. Shouldn't we be cutting him loose at his advanced age? He's well past his prime at this point, right?

It's better than holding on to him, still paying his salary, getting no picks for him to rebuild with and watching him leave after the 2024 season. If I am rebuilding I see no reason to keep him and I would want to do what I can to start that rebuild.

eh, I'm just going by what I've been hearing here in phx. Allegedly ARI wants to clear cap space. But your hypothesis seems logical as well.

Chiefnj2 04-27-2023 12:14 PM

Pac-Man Jones said the Bills and Chiefs were making a run on dhop. Apparently Darius Slay said the Ravens were also trying.

Also saw something, can't find it now, on tweeter that the Lions are in talks with the Cards that would send the #6th overall pick to AZ for the #34+Budda+Hopkins. No idea how real this is /shrug

Buck the Fills on this one. Anyone but them. Diggs/Hopkins would arguably be one of the top three WR tandems in the league, if not the best.

DeepSouth 04-27-2023 12:42 PM

I don't see how the Chiefs can afford Hopkins. The cap hit for the Chiefs would be $19MM in 2023.

DeAndre Hopkins Cap Hit
Hopkins will carry a cap hit of $30,750,000 in 2023 and $26,215,000 in 2024. Additionally, he has a dead cap hit of $22,600,000 in 2023 and $11,300,000 in 2024.

It was reported this offseason that Hopkins’ suspension in 2022 voided the no-trade clause in his contract.

If traded, his cap hits for his new team would be $19.45 million in 2023 and $14.915 million in 2024.
