It's not far fetched.

The last "youth movement" was Damon, Beltran, Dye and Sweeney.

The only guy they could afford to keep was Sweeney. How is it going to be any different with this current crop?

Are you for realz, player?

Hopefully next season will see a rebound. It's certainly possible. Aaron Crow was shittier last year than the 4 LHPs this year, by far. Crow was so bad that he got demoted from AA to high-A, and sucked even worse at the lower level. This season Crow is a borderline All-Star candidate (albeit as a reliever) on the major league team.

Pretty enormous albeit. If he's a reliever, it was a wasted draft pick.

The fact that he's contributing at the major league level means it's not a wasted pick IMO. So many guys fizzle out in the minors or just totally suck in the majors, so the fact that he's playing well in KC, despite being a reliever, is a plus.

I interviewed Greg Schaum (not sure what you all think about him) about a month ago and asked about Crow's future. He said it's been obvious to him and a lot of scouts since day 1 that Crow would be a reliever in the majors unless he develops another pitch.

I'm not going to argue that his value would be much better if he was a good starting pitcher, but it seems like he would need a lot of work to become a legit starter. I guess the question becomes: would you rather have a below average starter or a good reliever? That said, I don't want to see all our SP prospects turned into relievers...

Interesting. If that was the scouting opinion of him from the start (and I'm reading "day one" as before he was even selected), then the selection was stupid the moment it was made.

While I completely agree that it's nice to have some production (and Crow has been damn good, don't get me wrong), you have to try to go for more upside in the first round of the draft. That's why the Starling selection was brilliant, and I'll still say it was brilliant even if the kid never gets past AA.

I tend to agree about the upside thing, as I'd generally rather take high schoolers with big upside rather than college players with high floors & low ceilings (that's why I hate Hochevar so much), and definitely agree that it's a pretty dumb to pick a guy who projects as a reliever that high. Just pointing out how many high picks fail to reach the majors.

Sure. But the turnaround in terms of command, effectiveness of stuff, etc. is considerable.

Hey I got a question. Since the K's renovations I've only gotten to a couple games and sat in the lower level. Thinking about getting some cheap seats in the upper level for this Sunday. If you sit up there can you still walk around the outfield experience stuff, Rivals, HOF etc.? Or are you blocked from getting down there?

Hard to say, my man. On the one hand, I could see Crow's deal being a confidence issue. He's never failed, been a top-of-the-rotation pitcher since HS, then he signs and gets bombed. The organization follows that up by showing unusual trust in him, and the confidence returns. Ta da, effective pitcher.

Or, he's two pitch, as others (and other posters here) have suggested, and moving him to the pen masks his weaknesses that were quickly exposed by even low-level ML players. This is not a turnaround, but rather a completely different animal.

That would be a bonus then, thanks.

Count how many ML moments you see. Never a more apt slogan in sports history.

I'll do that. Escobar will make a couple plays, Francouer could throw someone out, Billy could double off the base of the fence, Hosmer will make a nice scoop at first and may hit one in the fountains... there's potential.

So you confirm what Demon said to my question? I can go anywhere if I'm siiting upstairs? Demon's "should" makes me nervous. I don't want to drive 4 hours for should... of course I can ask and employee too but I may want to buy tix early. Can't find anything about it on the team website. I know back in the day there were restrictions.

You can walk around the entire park. You can't go "anywhere", but you can go most places.
