Even less know what his name was before Giancarlo...

Sadly this is probably more true than false. We'll see. The fact the Indians make twice is much is small potatoes compared to someone like the Dodgers, who just signed a TV contract that gives them probably close to $300M a year. And it has the potential to get worse as teams like the Phillies get new deals.

There was actually an article about all this in LA Weekly a few weeks ago. It touched on 1) the idea whether these huge contracts were sustainable given that more and more people were giving up on cable. They may be creating a bubble that's going to burst. And 2) how this creates an even wider gap between the rich and poor, and used the Royals and Dodgers as the example. It claimed the Royals got $20M from TV and $25M from revenue sharing. The Dodgers blow that out of the water before selling a single ticket.

That's why the Shields deal happened. I was surprised nobody talked about this development in analyzing the trade. We have a short window and soon our players will become too expensive and it's back to rebuilding.

When Dayton said he owed it to Billy and Alex he was really saying that he only has them 3 more years anyway.

The league must act to address these competitive balance issues. The fact is, the league will die if this continues.

How can they prevent Glass from signing bad deals?

The trick is to prevent Glass from ruining the entire league with his shitty deal signing. That probably gets accomplished by doing TV deals at the league level.

Tuned into Dodgers at Giants just to hear the Vin Scully call.

Goddamned Detroit. 17-1 they are pounding the Astros. The Astros may as well be a high school team. JFC.

And Houston's only recent win was 9-1 vs the Yanks a few weeks ago.

I'd be very disappointed if the Royals can't sweep them....

Being this excited about this team brings back memories of the 70's & 80's for me.
