Yep. "Based on your two years of experience, are you committed to hiring an OC?" Question from Bob Gretz, I believe, based on voice.

Haley did NOT say "yes," though he rambled a bit. "Put the team in the best position..." blah, blah, blah.

Hootie 01-11-2011 01:44 PM

I think Haley should just call the plays...

He's the head coach...he's the offensive head coach...if that's what HE thinks gives us the best chance to win...I say go for it...and if he falls on his face we can look for a new head coach.

FML.

"Just to clarify, Todd, you say you will consider calling plays next year?" (direct question)

Haley: "Yeah."

Won't discount anything at this point.

I don't get much out of his press conferences. He (and Pioli) clearly subscribe to the "don't tell anyone about anything" philosophy. I wouldn't get too excited about his response one way or the other.

Check post #350. This is NOT good. Terrible, actually.

Hootie 01-11-2011 01:46 PM

or at least pick a guy he's comfortable with...like a protege...call the plays until that guy is ready to take over...like what happened with him in Arizona and what happened with Sean Payton one year in New York.

or just call the damn plays...

Plenty of head coaches call the plays and run a successful team.

the Talking Can 01-11-2011 01:49 PM

seems pretty clear Haley wants to call the plays...so just do it

if he fails, there is no one to blame

It all boils down to who he can find to fill the role.

If he can't, for whatever reason, find the right guy with the right approach and who knows the system, there's no benefit to hiring an OC. Like anything else, you have to evaluate the options and make the best decision you can based on the reality of the circumstances as you understand them.

Plus, it's early to be committing to a particular decision.

Adam Schefter is a reliable source... I'd take him over a pizza shop owner anyday.

Weis was an abortion this year, and I'm glad he's Florida's burden now.

Completely disagree.

to be honest...

I wish Crennel would leave, too...

He's competent, no doubt about it...but we have some guys (Berry, Arenas) who can flat out get to the passer and provide a little energy/playmaking ability to the game...

but instead we just sit back and play that "bend don't break" bullshit...

which cost us the momentum and the game in the 1st half when we let them score with 10 seconds to go...

3rd and 12 conversions...same old story every year...

playoff teams and playoff defenses don't give up easy 3rd and longs to the Baltimore Ravens...we did.

I was as unhappy with Crennel as I was with Weis/Haley...

that was some pussy ass defense and a pussy ass gameplan

Since we have a capable DC, its not a totally bad thing if Haley calls the plays.

Why is it bad that he would consider it? Sounds pretty non-committal to me.
