So long Nats.

Congrats on your win today, Cards fans. Beating Kershaw 2 times in 5 games is pretty incredible.

Is anything as pointless as regular season baseball? Just get in.

CaliforniaChief 10-07-2014 10:32 PM

As an aside, that home run by Bryce Harper was a freaking moonshot. Yikes.

I wouldn't want my season decided by a wild card winner take all game. Especially if it's Kershaw pitching against us. The division winner still has some worth.

Lefties could not touch him all year, but a bunch of light hitting lefties and turds went off on him.....strange game

I'm okay with this as long as he is honest with the team about his pain and whether he will make it another inning.

I don't like Lynn coming in the 2nd inning or something along those lines if Waino can't go or gets in trouble. Let Wacha come in. Save Lynn for game 2.

It's something he said he's had all year. He said it got really bad in August but felt better in September. The problem is he already had TJ surgery on that elbow once.

I love the way this is setting up. All the teams I truly hate are out, Dodgers, Yankme's and Red Sox. You Cardinal fans get a shot at revenge. My Giants are in the thick of things shooting for 3 WS championships in 5 years. Even the Royals are in the mix. Should be a lot of fun to watch.

Its your team and our team in the NLCS again. Just to piss off everyone else.

You have been to the NLCS 3 out of 5 years, correct? We have been to 4 straight NCLS's.

BigRedChief 10-08-2014 09:13 AM

OMG, I had no idea it was a $8.3 BILLION TV contract. Also that 70% of LA can't watch the games?

From the LA beat writers column.

Guggenheim shamelessly hid the Dodgers from their fans this summer with a money grab from Time Warner Cable that prevented the team from being on television in 70% of Los Angeles households. Yet, for all the riches of that $8.35-billion contract, they refused to allow the trading of prospects for one simple arm that could have saved the Dodgers in October.

Sorry Fruit and Pest but can't resist this from the column either........

No need to cut up the season, the Cardinals did that for them, once again leaving the Dodgers in sad little blue-stained pieces on their perfectly manicured turf with the arch cut into the outfield, the team that does everything right again triumphing over a team gone wrong.

From a Tom Verdacci column

While the Royals (no pennants since 1985) and Orioles (no pennants since 1983) decide which drought will end, it seems like the Cardinals and Giants have been fighting over the NL flag every year. Since the wild-card system began in 1995, there have been more NLCS played with either St. Louis, San Francisco or both (11) than without (9).

The Cards and Giants have been especially good in October over the past five seasons. Since 2010, they have:

• Filled seven of the past 10 spots in the NLCS.

• Won all five NL pennants (with the latest to be decided between them).

• Gone 49-14 (.778) in postseason games against all other teams.

• Gone 15-1 in postseason series against all other teams (including Wild-Card Games).

TLO 10-08-2014 12:15 PM

Both teams have a good history of legendary players, teams and seasons. Stan the man and Willie Mays? Thats top shelf.

Both have current success. Great fan support. Over achieve with their talent level. Come from behind to win games. Wins in the post season.

They have both earned their spots. Almost mirrors of each other. It's fitting that they meet again in the NLCS.

• Gone 15-1 in postseason series against all other teams (including Wild-Card Games).

More fun facts

San Francisco has won the last seven games in which it faced elimination (six in the 2012 postseason plus this year's Wild-Card Game), five of those coming on the road.

Since 2010, the Giants have survived eight rounds across three postseasons without being eliminated once despite being the underdog in nearly every case.

St. Louis, meanwhile, is 7-2 when facing elimination since 2011, with one of its two losses coming against San Francisco in Game 7 of the 2012 NLCS and the other in Game 6 of last year's World Series. What's more, in two of those victories, the Cardinals were down to their last strike (twice in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series, then again in Game 5 of the Division Series against the Nationals the next year) before coming back to win not just the game, but also the series.

BigRedChief 10-09-2014 04:23 PM

ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals' rotation for the National League Championship Series against the Giants for Games 1-4 will again be Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn, John Lackey and Shelby Miller, respectively -- exactly the same as their just-concluded NL Division Series victory over the Dodgers in four games.

When does Wacha go as the backup starter? Waino if he falters? Waits to see if Lynn or Miller falters?

Doesn't SFG go with Baumgardner/Vogelsong/Peavey/Hudson?

If I'm SanFran I'd find Zito and drag him to the mound.;)

That should have been a home run. We should be up 2-0. That replay showed an almost perfect swing on the ball. Does 54 degrees make that much of a difference in the length of a batted ball?

Absolutely. The ball doesn't deform as much because it's stiffer. It's like hitting a rock. You can get an extra 20-30 yards on a golf ball in warm weather (5-10%). Baseballs aren't much different.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 06:29 PM

Carpenter and Holliday got better wood on their hits but we are down 2-0?
