The young WR's need to play. Like the DB group last year, you learn by playing.

But WR is exactly the type of position where bandaids make sense. It's not like qb where it's QB1 or bust. You can find lots of snaps for rice. And you don't have to force snaps on him too early if you don't need to. I think WR is exactly the type of position where you can test unproven guys in spots and when they feel ready, you work them in more and more to the rotation. And this way you don't have to go all in on the promise of players who, much as we may like them, are anything but a sure thing.

Do we really need MVS though?

If you want a #1 WR, it's gonna have to come from the draft. The Chiefs aren't in the position anymore to go pay one that they didn't develop.

MVS is a valuable piece to the current group. He's gonna be a Chief this year.

I’d ****ing love Mike Evans on this team. Those weapons would be hard to match up with.

The DB group can get away with it knowing the offense has always been able to carry them while they figure shit out. Weve done that every year we've had spags. we know mahomes likes his WRs to hit their spots. I get that he's good enough to carry these guys but youre asking him to put his reputation on the line and to deal with all that frustration.

I wanted skyy to do well last year but you could see even in his WR game that he was largely unready. We don't have to do that if we have bandaids in place

They can plenty afford a quick 2-3 year option. And that's why you look at some of these 3rd contract veterans. Because they're cheaper and more willing to take less security in order to front load the contract which allows us to ditch them when our young guys are good enough to be featured options. It's not like other teams where you're looking for a centerpiece to the offense. I mean, I get MVS' role in the offense but not exactly leaning on a guy who disappears in half of the games. We have zero WRs right now that feel consistently dependable. They are either injury prone or unproven or inconsistent. That's exactly where a bandaid plays perfectly.

MVS is a bandaid. 20 million plus per year for a WR who's over 30 isn't a bandaid.

They can't afford to put that into a vet that you have to roll that money into multiple years to make it work, then potentially cut them lost and eat cash.

Seemed to work fine with MVS and JJSS coming in one year.

Once Pat got the contract he got, something has to be done cheaper. They've decided to do it with WR vs the OL. Yeah, it's on him to help get these young guys up and going. Comes with the territory.

O.city 05-19-2023 10:59 AM

JJSS was a bandaid. Now it's time for Moore to be a centerpiece. Sink or swim

I don't think Skyy Moore is ever going to be a centerpiece player in the NFL, I mean shit my comp for him was Golden Tate who was never a centerpiece player.

There aint no room anymore. Unless you think they're gonna cut James or Watson. Which....i doubt that.

None of those guys are "locked in" if they could swing a reasonable deal for a legit WR, they would.

But you aren't just talking about getting cheaper. You're talking about going all in on a totally unproven WR room. And not without risk. It's a lot to ask rice to be ready for a huge role this soon and we're asking skyy to make a massive leap into year 2.$20m isn't some kind of insurmountable obstacle especially if it's meant to be very temporary. It's one guy who literally turns our offense overnight from an inconsistently great enough (with potential to have significant rough patches) offense to a juggernaut and gives us a rock while we truly understand what our WR room looks like. And while we have peak Kelce and Reid, why wouldn't you take that plunge.

Because they don't have the money for it, plus you're burning 2 years on contract time for 2nd round WR's you need to be playing.

And you've got Toney who needs snaps.

Yeah, you need Sky to make a leap. He's a second rounder, it's sink or swim time for him.
