But then we might have drafted Pac Man.

I ****ing love DJ but I would draft Aaron Rodgers a million times over.

That's not a knock on DJ, a stud QB is that important.

At the time of the draft, DJ was the absolute right pick

Why? DJ didnt exactly have an immediate impact as far as win totals go. Drafting Rodgers, he could have sat behind Trent Green for a few years and learned.

DJ was said to be one of the best line backer prospects ever

that first round sucked. DJ may be the 2nd best player drafted. Either him or Demarcus Ware.

The Chiefs had the least talented defense in the league at the time.

And that's part of why the drafting was shitty. We were always looking at the now instead of to the future, and taking guys based solely on need instead of the best player available.

I don't think you'll ever see a potential 1st overall pick at QB fall that far again. Teams realize how important a franchise QB is. Look at the last few drafts, more and more QB's are going early.

Until we get a franchise QB of our own, this thread will probably continue to get bumped here and there.

Derrick Johnson has more interceptions than Aaron Rodgers.

...oh wait...

notorious 11-01-2011 09:04 PM

Rodgers was not an amazing prospect.

Deberg_1990 11-07-2011 09:55 AM

Ouch, it wasnt just the Chiefs that blew this pick......The VIkings way blew it.

Every team that passed on Rodgers in the draft -- Miami, for Ronnie Brown, Minnesota (Troy Williamson), Washington (Carlos Rogers), Minnesota again (Erasmus James), Jacksonville (Matt Jones), and, just one pick before Green Bay, Oakland (Fabian Washington) -- has to be retching right now.

Projecting Rodgers' full season, with an asterisk next to what would be league records: .725* completion percentage, 5,238* passing yards, 48 touchdowns, 6 interceptions; 129.1* passer rating.

Minnesota twice? Fabian Washington? That has to hurt.

I think at the time, DJ was the right pick. Based on what he was projected to be and our needs, you can't say drafting him was flawed logic.

Since then the NFL has changed and it's really only about the QB now. (which I think makes the game more boring but what can you do)

So yeah in hindsight or going forward, I'll always lean towards take a shot on a QB. Yeah, now I wish they would have taken Rogers obviously.

Yes because the NFL was never about the QB until only 5 or 6 years ago. ROFL
Signed, the 1990's Chiefs

Wasn't Rodgers being projected by some as the #1 pick?
