Great match to open the quarterfinals. Luca Modric is one of the best of all time. It’s fun watching him control games at 37 years old. Croatia players all grew up during a civil war in their homeland. They are never out of a match because they never let emotions take over in the big moments. They could **** around and win it all if they can continue to grind out games like this.

Probably competing for an easy goal on the counterattack. So they can dance more.........now they'll be dancing on a long flight home.

Don’t think Brazil did anything to blow it, really. They’re an attacking team and they win by keeping the ball and playing on the front foot. They made a defensive change after their goal but generally the way they’d defend a lead is by looking for a second goal.

Croatia played their game, defended crazily well, withstood everything Brazil had for 100+, and when the breakthrough came they got one chance to equalize and didn’t miss.

Other than winning the shootout they deserve to go through simply because they took the best team’s best shots and never collapsed.

This referee is going a great job. He could have ejected several by now but is managing the players and keeping them in the game.

He's my favourite ref. He refereed the Champions league final between Chelsea and Man City and did a ****ing exemplary job. He also cried during the medal ceremony which was pretty funny.
