Duncan, any starters almost ready? How are those two pitchers we drafted a couple years ago doing?

Well, it was last year and they were both HS guys so just guessing, prob 3-5 years away

suzzer99 04-16-2016 08:01 PM

Wow - I had it at 2 years ago in my head. Which would still be too soon, I realize.

Kyle Zimmer is the most ready but had shoulder soreness again.

After that, Miguel Almonte is probably the next call, but he has been uneven at AAA this year.

Matt Strahm is also someone I'm keeping an eye on. It's early, but he's s lefty who throws fairly hard and has a good breaking ball.

I wouldn't be shocked if he makes more of a contribution to the rotation than either Zimmer or Almonte this year.

I'd suspect Gee and then Duffy are next up if Young continues to struggle.

Duffy has good stuff but appears to be mental

Chris Young 0-3
Rest: 8-0

I'd rather see Wang than Duffy.

Yeah, he's a potential factor, too. Keep forgetting about him.

Regardless, I like the depth KC has in the rotation. Lot of guys you could try if Young continues to give up a ton of bombs.

cosmo20002 04-17-2016 11:00 AM

Just going by memory here, but the first few weeks of last year, wasn't the offense just killing it? HRs, and several guys hitting way over .300.
This year, hardly any power and pretty much only Hosmer and Omar(!) doing much at the plate. Lucky that the starting pitching (minus Young) overall has been excellent.

Not having Zimmer hurts...he'd definitely be in that starting rotation.

I've said this all along. Young is not a SP. He's best as a change of pace reliever. Our starters usually throw in mid 90's. Young is best to come in and eat a couple/few innings if the starting pitchers pitch count gets up there early. Royals are good at getting timely outs and weaseling themselves out of jams. Runs aren't being scored, but pitch count can sometimes get up there. Young could come in and maybe get through the opposition's batting order and eat a couple innings before getting it to 7-8-9 guys. He's throws mid-upper 80's, and then handing it over to another mid 90's guy...that's tough to adjust to over the course of a game.

Prison Bitch 04-17-2016 11:30 AM

I always thought Young was a panic deal by DM. 2/12 is expensive for an older guy who has had a checkered past in the AL. At the time we didn't know who we'd get in FA, if we knew we'd sign Kennedy I bet we don't do the Young deal
