Hunter Pence is the Super Creepy Rob Lowe of baseball players.

Are baseballs allowed to fall to the ground with touching their gloves first?

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:50 PM

About five more of those and we'll be even.

BigRedChief 10-11-2014 08:51 PM

7th inning batted ball luck for us

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:51 PM

I will almost guarantee you that if Wong doesn't GIDP Matheny will go to Pierzynski rather than Taveras, even though he shouldn't.

Wong is going to put it into the bullpen

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:52 PM

Harold, that ball isn't breaking. It's the angle at which the ball is thrown.

OldSchool 10-11-2014 08:53 PM

Big opportunity here for Cardinals.

bsroyals54 10-11-2014 08:53 PM

bumgardner ran in front of the baserunner wtf?

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:53 PM

That's some A-Rod level slapped-ball **** shit.

tk13 10-11-2014 08:53 PM

LMAO Bumgarner with the FB dive.

a pp roach 10-11-2014 08:53 PM

That's a dirty play. Should give him the base for that.

tk13 10-11-2014 08:54 PM

That was without a doubt intentional.

kcpasco 10-11-2014 08:54 PM

You can just linebacker someone out of the way?

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:54 PM

It's not going to get overturned, but doing that is smart, b/c he's standing up for his player.

milkman 10-11-2014 08:55 PM

Nothing dirty about that play.

GloryDayz 10-11-2014 08:55 PM

All things being equal, he needed to run-over the pitcher, knock him to the ground and lay on him! Dumb play on the part of the runner, WAAAAAY to nice in a game like this!

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:55 PM

What the ****?

TONY MOTHER****ING CRUZ? ARE YOU ****ING SERIOUS?

George Liquor 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

Cruz? Wtf?

BigRedChief 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

How can you block a guy from the base?

Jewish Rabbi 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

Best scoring chance of the game and we send up Tony ****ing Cruz. Wow.

OldSchool 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

Just don't hit a pop fly or get struck out.

Saul Good 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

I don't get the controversy here. It's called a tag. Madison tagged the runner. What am I missing?

BigRedChief 10-11-2014 08:56 PM

Cruz? WTF?:banghead:

kcpasco 10-11-2014 08:57 PM

Ok I'm fine with the call. Now I know you can shove someone of the base path.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:57 PM

Tony Cruz had a 51 wRC+ this year. Zack Greinke had 67. 2013 Kozma was 49.

There was none. Don't understand the challenge other than umpires will review anything the rest of the game anyway.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:58 PM

Best possible outcome here is for Bumgarner to lose his release point and throw a WP.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 08:59 PM

What the ****, man? How is that not a balk?

bsroyals54 10-11-2014 08:59 PM

Postseason umps didn't call a balk on the Angels vs the Royals either. They're blind i yells ya

kcpasco 10-11-2014 08:59 PM

Got away with a balk. LOL

George Liquor 10-11-2014 08:59 PM

What the ****? Balk.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:00 PM

Thanks, Mike. Tony ****ing Cruz. Wow.

Jewish Rabbi 10-11-2014 09:00 PM

There's six ****ing umpires and no one can see a blatant balk?

OldSchool 10-11-2014 09:00 PM

Struck him out.

milkman 10-11-2014 09:01 PM

No balk call.

Now ya'all have something to cry about.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:01 PM

If you wanted to PH a righty there, Bourjos is a significantly better hitter than Cruz.

But we can't burn our 5th OF/defensive replacement. Have to use a guy who is a worse hitter than some of our pitchers.

BigRedChief 10-11-2014 09:02 PM

How was that not a balk?

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:05 PM

Of 394 ML hitters w/ 150 or more ABs in 2014, Tony Cruz was 378th in wRC+

a pp roach 10-11-2014 09:06 PM

SOB Matheny!

Matheny stayed out his own way in the LA series but he really pissed them one up so far. No way did we put our best players on the field tonight.

kcpasco 10-11-2014 09:10 PM

So the Cards look better without Wainwright. Just admit he's hurt and bench his ass.

OldSchool 10-11-2014 09:10 PM

Bumgarner has been solid today. Much better post-season pitcher than Kershaw is.

Expected Fielding Independent pitching. It normalizes for both defense, batted ball luck, and home run/flyball percentage.

Effectively, it says that if you removed defense and luck from the equation, because a pitcher can't control those, that is what their ERA would be.

You don't know what you're talking about, so don't.

Holliday hits the hardest ball of the night directly into a headwind that is 10 rows deep if it's 70. Ishikawa dives to catch a sinking line drive w/ runners on, Bumgarner balks with runners on second and third.

I think it's fair to say that, in addition to pitching well, he had a fair amount of luck today, too.

I really don't, not a big baseball fan so I just go off of how many runs a pitcher gives up.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:24 PM

Santiago Casilla is basically 2013 Edward Mujica. His ERA is half of what his peripherals suggest it should be, his strand rate is ridiculous, and his K:BB is only about 3:1.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:28 PM

Needs baserunners. Swings at first pitch.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:30 PM

It seems like the team just completely packed its bags in after the second inning. This is as dead as I've seen Busch and the Cardinals in a long, long time.

OldSchool 10-11-2014 09:30 PM

This is game.

They looked the same way against Kershaw until the 7 inning both times and all game against Grienke.

'Hamas' Jenkins 10-11-2014 09:32 PM

Time to regroup. That was an absolutely atrocious effort in all phases--hitting, starting pitching, managing, defense.

Unacceptable effort.

George Liquor 10-11-2014 09:33 PM

He has pitched out of his skull since joining the Giants. Besides, remember 2012 Zito.

Aside from the Game 1 explosion in the 7th inning, this team has scored 2,3,3, and 0 runs. The offense isn't good enough. They don't work counts and their hitters aren't very good.

Yeah, you can't write this team off after 1 bad game. You don't have 30 post season wins since 2010 without taking it on the chin and coming back.

The Giants have had the Cardinals' number for a while. They stomped our ass out in 2002 and Houdini'd their way to the WS against us a decade later.

That's what I've said all along--these PS series are mostly the luck of a SSS.

Look at the Royals right now: last in baseball by over 10% in HRs and they have eight in six games. Gordon breaks his bat on a flyball and drives in three because of the count and number of outs. Today, Infante hits a swinging bunt to third in the 9th. Then, Yost takes the bat out of the hand of a hot hitter with pop to bunt, giving up an out. A huge mistake. Next batter slaps one oppo that would have been a routine GIDP had the 1B been holding the runner on at first.

Baseball is incredibly hard and requires a great deal of skill, but over the course of a short series, luck will always trump skill. That's why the best Cardinal team of my life didn't win a single game in the WS but one that won 83 ****ing games won the whole thing.

Everyone and even the Giant fans know that was a balk. How did 4 umpires on the field miss it?

Basseball is a funny game. We get that run in and somehow Cruz gets a hit, maybe we get Baumgardner out of the game right there.

If, But etc they were the clear better team tonight. Tip the hat and move on.

kcpasco 10-11-2014 10:07 PM

Except Cruz sucks and wasn't gonna get a hit. But it was still the most blatant balk I've seen.
