This is an unmitigated disaster. Any KU fan that isn't admitting that simply is getting left behind.

Cal is blowing right by Self in coaching and it's not because "he's got 8 pros on the team". I'm sick of that excuse. The guy gets everything out of his players and they improve tenfold over the course of the season where we seem to get "a little better" but never simply bust through.

John Wall, Anthony Davis, Joe Randall, Willie Cauli-Stein (FROM ****ING OLATHE!!!), Karl Towns, Devin Booker etc....

These are the type of players that Kentucky is pumping out of their program.

And I'm not even talking about the Harrison Twins, Trey Lyles, Kidd-Gilcrest, Ulis, etc etc

Get it together. This is a DISASTER. Self can't hide behind titles in this bogus conference forever. This team was NOWHERE near the same level as WSU tonight and that has to matter.

We suck right now and it's on Self and his $5 million salary to produce. Either that or get someone who can compete with Kentucky.

If my texts and Facebook feeds from all my fellow Hawk alums are any indication, there are many of us agreeing 100% with this. The Brainiacs are loud and proud but there's a lot of very pissed off fans with Selfs garbage Marches.

As for Cal, he got fat happy and lazy and let his roster deteriorate thinking he could just wait for the phone to ring from recruits. His 2012 team had lots of experience. He's got that now.

Yeah. Regardless, Lucas will have to play a 'large' role next season.

I REALLY want to land Thon Maker. If/When Cliff leaves...

I mean, what was the best case scenario here? Getting some luck and beating WSU and NDU, but then getting leveled by UK with a chance at a FF on the line? That might have felt worse. A loss was inevitable for this group whether it was now or later.

Self didn't have the necessary bigs to play defense like he usually does. KU didn't have any rebounders, they didn't have anyone who could block or alter shots in the paint. KU's bigs were softies, the guards can't guard the perimeter and that's what this whole season came down to. On offense KU struggled scoring from the low blocks and when the weren't hitting 3's they struggled on offense.

Normally, I wouldn't be against getting rid of Selden either. But I don't think Self has that luxury with this team. Have to stick with him and hope something is there.

I watched a Cincy team with very little chance against UK yesterday drive 5 guys into the paint and get every rebound possible against Towns, Stein and company.

Self instead chose to play Selden (who doesn't do anything), Greene (who doesn't do anything and sucks) and Ellis (who was hurt).

OK, yes... you have to play these guys but can't you scream at them to go in the ****ing lane and knock them around?

Did WSU just make a million 3's like every other team that beats KU in the tourney? Maybe...

But it simply seemed that Selden didn't care and was half asleep the entire time. He was getting beat by white farm boys. That just can't happen. Not in that environment... not in that spot.

Self is a great coach, but he's not infallible. He's GOT to change his system up a little bit. It's too predictable. It's fine if you want to play through the bigs. I think that's a good idea. But you have to have the bigs to do it. And teach everyone to move to get open instead of relying on the drive and dish when you can't just toss it inside.

We need another big with attitude alongside Perry. Selden is great on defense, but offers very little else. That's GOT to change. Greene needs to learn to play D, or play elsewhere.

This outcome is hardly surprising, but it's getting to be too unsurprising.

I love the guy too, but he is too slow and he turns his back on defense allowing open lanes to the bucket because he is slow.

Better land a big, whether it's Thon or somebody else. Can't go with these bigs again if we want to even win conference.

So we have zero committments right now? I suppose it's possible Cliff comes back.

This season will be forgotten when KU is a one seed this time next year.

I do think alot of Cal's luck this year is simply a bunch of guys all maturing together at the right time.

It's not like it's freshman doing all the work.

But shit.... Self, get some bigs man. I'm convinced if you get 4 7 footers like UK has you will win. How hard can that be? lol

Yes, his system is great if you have effective scoring bigs. KU usually does, but they didn't this year. Cliff didn't develop at all and then got NCAA'd at the end of the season. And Lucas/Traylor don't have that kind of ability to make up for that.

He tries hard, but he really doesn't do anything particularly well at this level. Very limited and inefficient offensive game, slow footed defensively, and isn't a shot blocking presence at all despite his size.

Hehe, Not sure we have what it takes to be a 1 seed next year. I'll take whatever we have though. I just love watching it.

Sometimes a bad loss like this is exactly what a team needs. They will get to hear about WSU being better for months and it will probably give them that "**** you" edge they were missing.

There will be fresh, new talent coming in next year, too.
