Rangers apparently trying the opposite strategy this game.

Just give them the cup.

Quick's playing like a boss tonight.

Damn these bullshit king playoff runs!!!

CaliforniaChief 06-11-2014 09:54 AM

Tonight's the night for the Kings to wear their crowns again.

A little part of me wanted this to go back to LA to win at home, plus I had the chance at going to the game...but you just want to finish it off.

I think the Rangers will come out breathing fire early, maybe go up a goal or two, and then the size/depth of the Kings kicks in again. Hopefully I'm right.

DaFace 06-11-2014 08:55 PM

I don't think I've ever seen a puck just sit down like that. Crazy.

http://i.imgur.com/km6UeXu.gif

DaFace 06-11-2014 08:56 PM

Also, Sutter apparently doesn't like the Roy approach tonight.

CaliforniaChief 06-12-2014 01:33 PM

I thought the Kings should have pulled Quick much sooner. They were just pounding NY's zone, save the one shot down by Nash.

Games 1 and/or 2 probably should have gone to the Rangers, and last night should have been LA. It's hockey.

Now it's time for LA to deliver the knockout punch tomorrow night at home.

Kings are definitely on a mission right now.

ChiefRocka 06-13-2014 08:44 PM

Gonna have a Richards or Nash sighting soon. I can feel it.

tk13 06-13-2014 09:16 PM

Someone probably needs to let the Rangers know they can't win the game if the puck never leaves their defensive zone.

DaFace 06-13-2014 09:16 PM

Quick's almost getting bored back there.

Pepe Silvia 06-13-2014 09:19 PM

Make me eat my words Rangers I'm not ready for hockey to be over.

DaFace 06-13-2014 09:23 PM

Can't complain about the action in this one. Fun game.

tk13 06-13-2014 09:47 PM

That was a pretty wild pace for an OT. Let's see if the 2nd one has that much action.

DaFace 06-13-2014 10:03 PM

The Q and L forcefields... two of the strongest.

tk13 06-13-2014 10:14 PM

Nash wants that one back. Net was wide open.

Buck 06-13-2014 10:15 PM

This may be the best hockey game I've ever seen.

tk13 06-13-2014 10:27 PM

That'll do it.

DaFace 06-13-2014 10:27 PM

Buck 06-13-2014 10:27 PM

Won it off a rebound goal

Bearcat 06-13-2014 10:27 PM

Only 3.5 months until hockey.

DaFace 06-13-2014 10:28 PM

Well, despite only winning 1, I thought the Rangers were pretty damn competitive. Can't be fun to lose, but they made a hell of a run.

Buck 06-13-2014 10:28 PM

Love seeing teams win the cup at home.

C3HIEF3S 06-13-2014 10:28 PM

If anything, he needs to be booed more.

Should have said that differently... he wasn't booed enough. It being mild was the problem.

It was a lot of fun watching these two. You have to feel for Lundqvist - what a playoff run he had.

True. Lundqvist carried NY and it was sad to see him lose. On the other hand, I've followed the Kings for years and am glad they won. I'm surprised hockey hasn't caught on more in this country. It's a great game.

I felt awful for him, he gave them chance after chance in those road games and his offense left him high and dry.

CaliforniaChief 06-14-2014 01:13 PM

I didn't get to go, so watched it at home, but not live as I had a grad party. Fortunately nobody at the party is into sports, so no ruined surprises.

Probably had 4 heart attacks and 3 TIAs, but woke up this morning.

It's great to be on top again. So proud of those guys.

Depends on the team, honestly. Canucks and Devils fans have booed him far worse than any other fanbase. In contrast, Panthers and Lightning fans didn't boo him at all in '96 or '04.

Football fans might think it's a bit homerish, but I do enjoy having home-town announcers for sporting events sometimes. It's fun to hear guys who are genuinely excited about the outcome.

Congrats on the win, man. Color me jealous.

You've got an up and coming team that will be challenging for years to come, as does Anaheim and Chicago (not up and coming, just coming). It was awesome to watch the parade today. Here was the highlight of the rally, courtesy of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (A.K.A. Phil Dunphy from Modern Family):

MacKinnon wins the Calder.
Roy wins the Jack Adams.
O'Reilly wins the Lady Byng.

And yet O'Reilly may walk away in a year. :sulk:

Sweet... the other day the news was O'Reilly was looking for 1yr/$6.75 million... not only overpaid, but requiring this crap again next year as he would've been an RFA again.

O'Reilly, Avalanche agree to two-year contract
Wednesday, 07.23.2014 / 1:02 PM / News

Center Ryan O'Reilly and the Colorado Avalanche agreed to a two-year contract Wednesday, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Darren Dreger of TSN reports the contract is for $12 million, with O'Reilly being paid $5.8 million in 2014-15 and $6.2 million in 2015-16.

The sides had an arbitration hearing scheduled for later Wednesday, but it was a hearing neither side was interested in having. The contract was agreed to as Avalanche executive vice president Joe Sakic, general manager Greg Sherman, O'Reilly, and the player's agent, Pat Morris, waited to enter the hearing chamber.

"We were right outside the door, ready to do this," Sakic told Adrian Dater of the Denver Post.

Sakic said he arrived for the hearing in Toronto on Monday, and began talking with O'Reilly and Morris on Tuesday about reaching a deal before the hearing.

"We knew no matter what there would at least be a one-year deal, but then it became, 'Well, how about two?'" Sakic said. "There was never any animosity between us this whole time. Any of the perceived animosity came from the outside."

The contract will keep O'Reilly with the Avalanche through the 2015-16 season, when he can become an unrestricted free agent. However, Sakic said he hopes a long-term contract can be worked out before that happens.

"When we shook hands I think we were both very happy," Sakic said. "I know the Colorado Avalanche is very happy. He's a very valuable player to us and we want him long-term. That hasn't happened yet, but we'll keep working at it and see what happens.

"Like I said, we value Ryan a lot and we're just real happy to have him under contract."

O'Reilly, 23, had a team-best 28 goals last season and set career-highs in goals and points (64). He also won the Lady Byng Trophy for skillful and gentlemanly play after being assessed two penalty minutes while playing 80 games. He also had two goals and four assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Selected by the Avalanche in the second round (No. 33) of the 2009 NHL Draft, O'Reilly has 73 goals and 191 points in 345 NHL games in five seasons.
