I'd almost be willing to say that David Glass is a better owner than Clark, not Lamar, but Clark Hunt. The hate Glass gets is pretty funny. You can't expect an owner of one of the smallest markets and attendance in baseball to spend in the Top 20 even. Yet alone comparable to the big boys. It's not going to happen. We just threw out millions to some great latin players and have been shelling out money in the draft for a while now. The Royals should not, and cannot really get blockbuster free agents. We can get second to even third tier guys such as Jose Guillen and Gil Meche, and what does that show us. We have to overspend like crazy just to get them to come here. Contrary to popular belief, David Glass is not that cheap. He may have been when he first bought the Royals and getting familiar with the business, but he's doing a good job lately IMO.

We've got one of the smallest markets in all of sports, period. Our owner is a terrific owner, but he's not going to go out and spend a $100 million payroll and a $100 million payroll when we can only sustain a $55 million or $60 million payroll in this market.

So we've gotta, our team has to be better than anybody else. We have to have synergy. We have to have togetherness, very similar to what the Colorado Rockies had three years ago. They had some young, talented players. But they played together, they loved each other, their families got along, and they went out and played hard every single night.

Maybe he said this maybe he didn't. Either way it's true.

Doesn't really matter in the end though. I just want one. One goddamn championship and we can all move on a bit.

Maybe this team might actually come together next year or 2013 and give us that shot. God it would be great.

Random observation from the K.

We have a shit ton of people who can only go up and down the steps one step at a time. We are a decrepit fan base. I sit on the isle and had a lady, not even look at me, use my shoulder as a hand rail.

We just can't afford the healthy fans other large market teams can. You just need to accept reality.

What if you found out that the Royals were getting $80 million in profit-sharing, but lying about it so they could spend only $50 million and the owner was pocketing the extra cash?

He's spending more money in the draft (a few million more, not 20) and in Latin America than most other owners. /Glass defender.

Look, we all realize that what I sarcastically posted above is true, and I'm happy and thankful that Glass is doing these things. However, this is the cost of doing business. If you don't want to invest in the draft, Latin America, and your minor league system IN ADDITION to funding your ML club at a respectable level, then you should sell the team.

I genuinely believe that several posters on this forum are more passionate about the Royals than David Glass is. I know one thing for sure: quite a few of us have been to more games this year than that piece of shit.

But we should forgive and forget. He only ruined baseball in KC for 15 years, which is, if one's lucky, 1/5 of an average male's life.

The organization has been spending profit-sharing money on more things than just the major-league payroll. How do you think the Royals have been giving out such high bonuses to drafted players and international players?

Now, should be spending more? Absolutely. It is not untenable that payroll can be greater than $80 million. Like Deez said the other day: it's a which-came-first situation. Fans or a winning team? Common sense says that the fans will come if the winning is in place. Sounds like solid investment if I'm Glass, but I'm not.

In 2010 the Royals spent $10M+ on the draft, whereas the Rays spent $7M.

In MLB terms, we're talking about a chickenshit amount of money, so if the revenue sharing numbers are as high as some speculate, it confirms that Glass is still an epic piece of shit.

Not nearly at a pre-'06 level, but still not good.

Agreed. Glass is clearly only interested in running the team in a business sense. That kind of ownership and the ability to win games are not necessarily mutually exclusive, but it has never been a perfect marriage in any professional sport.

Don't disagree. Frustrating as hell, though.
