Maybe Soria will pull a Meche and retire early.
|
He's been a little bitch ever since he cried about Mexicutioner being an offensive nickname. The '14 and '15 team was pretty much chalk full of red-ass type players and Soria might be the biggest gutless pussy in baseball. He didn't fit in with this group of players and he never will.

The scary thing is, we actually seem to be outperforming analytics again. We are +5 wins in PyThag and +3 in Base Runs. On both measures we should be behind,,,,,,GULP,,,,,even the Twinks.
We are the only AL team scoring under 4/game. We are 24th in MLB in run differential (between two great teams the Twinks and Brewers). We haven't scored 4 in 8 straight games which goes back to our 1972 team. Nice job this year, front office and players. Nice job |

Am bored at work so I decided to tally up the suckage.
I'd say we were still in decent shape on July 2: 43-37, in second place in the division, 6 games out of first. After a four-game losing streak during Cleveland's winning streak, we lost a lot of ground, but had righted ourselves with a 5-2 stretch. Then the trapdoor opened. We lost four in a row, and then just couldn't put back-to-back wins together to save our lives. Since July 2, we are 8-20. During that stretch we have scored 4 or more runs only eight times; our record in those games is 5-3. In the 20 (TWENTY) games we have scored 3 or fewer runs, our record is 3-17. Two of those wins were games started by Duffy. The last Royals starting pitcher other than Duffy to get a win was Volquez back on JULY 9. We haven't scored more than 3 runs since July 27. |
Brutal stretch in July. Just a bunch of cuts that eventually bled the offense out...
Moustakas injury Cain injury Gordon year-long struggles Hosmer's patented month-long slump Morales' slumping off again Having multiple bench guys playing everyday roles Using a lead off hitter with terrible OBP skills The pitching has been good enough, for the most part, to be competitive, for the past few weeks. Ventura has been Ok. Volquez has been steady. Kennedy has given them more chances to win than games that got blown out. Etc. Sometimes seasons go sideways. That has happened here, in a big way. I don't think it discredits the previous three years or proves anything about them, just means they need to bounce back in a big way in '17. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Last year our position players were 5th in fWAR. They are 23rd this year. Much has been made of the pitching (and the rotation does suck).....but the rotation wasn't all that great last year either so the MUCH bigger drop off is the regulars. Our defense is still #1 in MLB, so it's all on the bats. Our wRC+ is so bad we are 26th. Ahead of NL lightweights Reds, Phillies and Bravos. |
Hey, if we just go like 38-16 to finish out the year, we can catch up to Cleveland if they play .500 ball from here out. All hope is... not... lost....
|
Numbers and stats aside, I think the team just pretty obviously hit a wall physically and emotionally. They've played a ton of high stakes ball the last two years (two and a half really when you consider their mad dash at the end of '13), and now it's taking its toll. Factor in the injuries and there you have it.
Of course "hitting the wall" isn't the ONLY reason they're here, but it can't be discounted. |

At least we're not the Mets, whose fans have diagnosed the team with the same hangover sans the championship.
|
I think it is more due to injuries, shit pickups and some shit play. Since the AL Central came into existence the Indians won 5 straight div titles, Detroit 4 straight and Twins won 3.
|
It's not injuries and we know this because in early June we were doing just fine despite having Moose gone for quite a while. And the latest hits to the bullpen came only after our massive June-July tailspin.
Our offense didn't collapse because 1 guy - whos replacement is 2nd on the team in OPS anyway - is gone. It's prob overplaying our regulars by Ned, who set marks for most time given to regulars since the divisional era (post 1969) began. They prob are tired. Some, like Escobar and Gordon, are simply on the downside of their career anyway. |
