If we have to get a retread, can we at least get one that has had a bit of recent displays of competence? |
If Andy doesn’t replace Sutton, what is the point of watching next season? It isn’t going to change with that guy running the defense.

Honest question who is still available? Steve Spagnuolo Anyone?

It's right in Buffalo because he tried to take 4-3 personal and fit them into a 3-4. But his scheme isn't the problem, Bob not ADJUSTING the scheme in games is the problem. |
Through Bob Sutton's career as a DC, 7 teams have finished in the bottom half in yds allowed, 2 in the top half. Most were in the bottom third.
His only saving grace as a coordinator is that he's had a handful of bend-don't-break years in which they didn't give up a lot of points. In the first four years in KC, his defense was top 10 in points allowed. But this had a lot more to do with their offensive ball control strategy and being near the top of the league in takeaways than fielding a defense that was well-prepared to get stops. Without the likes of prime Houston or Berry or Marcus Peters piling up turnovers, Sutton looks really bad. His adjustments, or lack thereof, are awful. Opposing coaches ALWAYS get the best of him in the 2nd half. I expect him to be fired. They're out of excuses. In 2016, the defense was butter, but they led the league in takeaways and minimized points scored, therefore they couldn't justify firing him. Last year, they could point to the fact that they were still middle of the pack in points allowed and showed signs of improvement in the 2nd half of the season. This year, they were awful in every way. One game that included about 12 batted passes doesn't change anything. I'm tired of hearing that it's a personnel issue. They have MORE than enough talent to field an average or even above average defense. Just go get Rex Ryan already. |
From his first year and to hopefully his last game, Bob Sutton consistently coached a defense that consistently blew 4th quarter leads regardless of how big or small the lead was.
This year alone.... NE Game 1 43-40 Rams 54-51 Chargers 29-28 NE Game 2 36-31 in OT I will spare him the Seattle game. But the other 4 are 4 losses in which you scored 150 points!!! 150 scored points in 4 losses. Or to put it another way 162 points allowed in 4 games!!!! That isn't sad, that's downright dreadful. |

And really, we were a Case Keenum overthrow from losing Denver game #1!! Demarius Thomas was wide open for the winning TD and we got lucky.
