I don't like the deal because I don't believe that Matt GrCassel is all that good.

I'd take Cassel and Vrabel over Chad Jackson, that's for sure.

His stats are pretty good. So there is hope.
I mean a 89 QB rating for the season is nothing to sneeze at

I think you need to sit back and see what this team looks like after FA and the draft.

Pioli is just getting warmed up.

I don't get how anyone is so convinced that the QB that Detroit doesn't pick would be that much better that Cassel...

Nobody wants to move up in this draft. Period. There is a huge lack of top ten talent in this draft. No, I think the implosion happens when Detroit passes on Matthew Stafford.

Well, there are some positives out of this move.

1.) We did acquire a young QB who we intend to develop as a franchise guy.
2.) Although I think he has some question marks, we are going to be developing him in pretty much the same system under the same type of leadership he had in his previous stop. It's not going to be a case of somebody playing for one coach and then going somewhere completely different under a different coach and trying to repeat the magic. Kind of the same thing as Trent Green, where he was able to come into a system he was very familiar with under the same leadership he had with the Rams, so the level of comfort should be high.

The negative is I don't know what you do with the 3rd pick if you don't draft Curry. Trading down and getting that 2nd back would reallly be cool, but we'll have to see on that.

But the potential is there that we just acquired our offense and defensive captains and leaders for a single draft pick. Definitely not a very safe deal, Very high risk deal, no doubt, it could be a sickening steal or it could flop. Although in reality if it does flop, we only lost a single 2nd round draft pick. Which has value (unless you're the Chiefs the last 15 years), but isn't the end of the world. The bigger test is not the draft pick but the number of years we've committed to Cassel now.

Either way, it's exciting that we're being extremely active in trying to get this thing turned around.

If we got Vrabel AND Cassell for a 2nd rounder like Peter King is reporting, we just bent NE over and pounded them right in the ass.

Hell yeah.

I'm not even projecting whether I think this will be a success or an epic fail...but right now, this is a total, unbelievable steal...something that I refuse to believe until I see it.

I actually completely agree with you, for once.

A fair deal IS a rape, by the standards of previous "so-so QB for pick(s)" deals. Vrabel as a throw-in is way better than Vrabel for a 5th rounder or something, too. Considering the market value for someone like this, it's a mind-boggling deal.

Brees had a rough time because that team was in shambles when he was drafted. He worked hard and led that team. I knew I liked the kid when I saw him at Arrowhead trying to rally the troops when we were shellacking the dolts. That kid doesn't have an ounce of quit in him.

He fell to the second because of his size. He isn't that "prototypical qb" the league drools over. I personally find that shit to be the reason so many qbs fail: teams look for 6'4", 230+lbs, with a rocket arm, rather than can the kid play?

DTLB58 02-28-2009 01:13 PM

the chiefs have confirmed compensation is just the #34 overall for both players reported on NFLN

Compared to the Schaub deal, the Chiefs certainly robbed the pats.

Yep! Just heard it for myself on NFL network.

What a trade - Peterson could never have pulled both off for a 2nd round pick.

Pitt Gorilla 02-28-2009 01:13 PM

This seems like a great deal. A 2nd rounder isn't bad at all.

This makes Rosenfels for a 4th or whatever look pretty silly.
