I say we build it over at Legends next to the speedway. Things are happenin over there.

I think we should put the Royals stadium in St. Joe.
The crowd will shower the players with Bud Ice and 5 for $5 Ar-B-Q sandwiches. And it's only a mild 60 mile commute from downtown KC. Not to mention the bar scene. Cigarette to the neck? Sure! Girl with obvious C-section scar working it hard at the Buffalo Bar? You bet! Shirtless dudes fighting in the parking lot over whose expense account they're going to use to pay the $32 bill? GODDAMN RIGHT!!! |

The number of people that drive home after the game is far larger than the number that would be staying in a hotel overnight. |
Saul's absolutely correct. Yea, the stadium looks great. But there is nothing to do prior to or after. The possibilities of retail $ flowing to business from the current location is virtually nil.
And there is no reason you can't build the exact same stadium downtown, giant scoreboard and all. I love the stadium. It's beautiful. That doesn't mean the renovation wasn't ridiculously short sighted. Clay Chastain was big on the idea of light rail connecting all the area destinations. Would have cost a bundle, but it would be nice to be a forward thinking city and be able to jump on a rail and hit the PL, the aquarium and Crown Center at midtown, or the Plaza. and the HSTSC. Even have it hit the Legends and the racetrack and the casinos. Could have... would have. In 15 years that stadium will be built and it will be too cost prohibitive to put it in downtown. It'll be out at the racetrack. THAT's going to be the sad part. |

Not entirely. And this comes from one of the guys who has spent a lot of time arguing with him in this thread. A lot of things he says do not make sense. However there still is the issue of personal preference. Some people actually prefer the bar scene to the tailgate scene. I personally do not understand that myself. But different strokes..... So he is not wrong in wanting a downtown ball park because that is more to his tastes. It's his arguments and then flipping his arguments that got him owned. |
