So lets say I tie with Pittsburgh for division lead, how does the tie breaker work? If we tie we split the season series 1-1
|
The Vision defense is raging.
Jason Campbell comes out of the game with a 10.2 passer rating. Four sacks. Four interceptions. 1.52 yards per passing attempt. Total yards on offense: 92. Vegas' only score was on a fumble return. |

I'm guessing I play Anchorage in Week 16 and 18 AGAIN this year. LMAO
Time for CJ Spiller to earn his money. |
|
Wow, that sucked. I held the opposing team to 22 passing yards and lost because I had four turnovers -- all in my own territory. And I can't figure out what my offensive coordinator was thinking. We went for it on this 4th down, which was totally unnecessary, and when we didn't convert, we gave over great field position, which of course led to a TD:
<table><tbody><tr><td>Austin</td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 15:00</td><td>2nd and 2</td><td>Austin 44</td><td>Matt Ryan (pressured) passes incomplete to Owen Daniels. </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 14:53</td><td>3rd and 2</td><td>Austin 44</td><td>Knowshon Moreno rushes for 1 yards. </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 14:11</td><td>4th and 1</td><td>Austin 45</td><td>Knowshon Moreno rushes for 0 yards. Turned over on downs</td></tr><tr><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td>Austin 17, Richmond 14</td></tr></tbody></table> Then, when I really needed to go for it on 4th down, we punted the ball away. <table><tbody><tr><td>4th Q 2:06</td><td>1st and 10</td><td>Austin 20</td><td>Matt Ryan (pressured) passes incomplete to Eric Decker. </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 1:58</td><td>2nd and 10</td><td>Austin 20</td><td>Matt Ryan (pressured) passes incomplete to Eric Decker. </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 1:51</td><td>3rd and 10</td><td>Austin 20</td><td>Matt Ryan passes, batted at the line of scrimage incomplete. </td></tr><tr><td>4th Q 1:44</td><td>4th and 10</td><td>Austin 20</td><td>Adam Podlesh punts 50 yards, fair catch by Dwayne Harris </td></tr><tr><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td>Austin 17, Richmond 21</td></tr></tbody></table> Just a painful game to follow. |
Look at these breaks that Anchorage keeps getting. They're toast come playoff time.

It's Friday, Friday Gotta sim again on Friday Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend Friday, Friday Simma down on Friday Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend |
Seems like offensive numbers were a little more in check this year.
Was there a fine-tuning of the software in the offseason to effect this change, or did defensive talent get better? |
I made a few mid-season adjustments last year to real in unrealistic outliers, but no huge changes this yer.

This was weird: Richmond 2nd Q 15:00 2nd and 3 Austin 3 Matt Hasselbeck (pressured) scrambles for 20 yards. Touchdown, conversion Austin 7, Richmond 7 You only had net 51 yards on passing and rushing in the second half... that was either a really ugly game by the offenses or a really good defensive effort on both sides... Considering you are #8 in offense in Points, Id like to think my #4 Defense in points allowed slowed you down. |
SFC Playoff Picture
1. Provo Knuckledraggers 11-3 (+161) 2. Fort Wayne Dukes 11-3 (+158) 3. Independence Vision 10-4 (+101) WC Race Pittsburgh Tacos 9-5 (+121) Kansas City Ball Busters 9-5 (+10) ------------------------ Las Vegas Lonely Strippers 9-5 (-20) Richmond Tigerhawks 8-6 (+58) St Joseph Stetsons 8-6 (+23) 2 games left, no one has clinched yet. Top 3 games of Week 15 in conference to determine playoffs: Provo (11-3) vs Las Vegas (9-5) Fort Wayne (11-3) vs Richmond (8-6) Independence (10-4) vs St Joe (8-6) |
Fort Wayne and Provo are atleast in the playoffs.

Do playoff carries impact the future value of RBs (300) or are those considered non-existent?
|
Since the Chiefs are playing tonight, perhaps we should wait until tomorrow night to sim?
|
I'm good with simming tonight. I thought you were waiting until half time.
|
Please sim.
|
Go ahead and Sim away as far as I'm concerned.
|
|
Okay, let me game plan and I'll turn the crank.

Bleah. We took Denver into overtime and then never saw the ball. Duluth is filing a complaint against the league for not using the new overtime rules.
|
Seems like an error here. I shouldn't have called a timeout because the clock automatically stops. It didn't affect the game, but I just wanted to point this out.

Nice game. Anchorage, pepper your angus. |
Looks like Anchorage will play Austin in the R1 wild card, and I get the winner of that.
Solar wild cards are up in the air. |
Looks like fort Wayne will play independence unless I win and Provo loses.

Maybe it'll remind me to do my lineups. I'm still kicking myself for missing two key lineup updates that may have cost my teams the playoffs. I have a lot of self-loathing right now. |
Losing by a holding penalty in OT. I love it
Can't say the sims aren't creative.... Ridiculous maybe.. creative, definitely. |
Playoff Scenarios
Lunar 1. Denver 2. Clearwater (slight chance of Austin taking the 2nd seed, but they'd a win by a huge margin and a Clearwater loss to a 2-13 team) 3. Cedar Rapids (slight chance of Topeka taking the 3rd seed, but they'd need to beat Cedar Rapids by 41 points) 4/5. Anchorage can clinch the 4th seed with a win. 4/5. Austin can clinch the 4th seed with a win and an Anchorage loss. Solar 1. Provo can clinch the 1st seed with a win, provided Fort Wayne loses or wins by less than 6 points. 1. Fort Wayne can clinch the 1st seed with a win, provided Provo loses. If Provo wins, Fort Wayne needs to win by 6 more points. 1. Independence can clinch the 1st seed with a win, and losses by Provo and Fort Wayne that make up 58 points in differential. If Provo and Fort Wayne choke, this is possible, because Independence is going to destroy Springfield. 2. Independence/Provo/Fort Wayne 3. Independence/Provo/Fort Wayne 4. Pittsburgh can clinch the 4th seed with a win, provided there are no 100+ point blowouts this week. 4. Kansas City can clinch the 4th seed with a win and losses by Pittsburgh and Las Vegas. 4. Las Vegas can clinch the 4th seed with a win and losses by Pittsburgh and Kansas City. 4. Richmond can clinch the 4th seed with a win, losses by Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Las Vegas and St. Joseph and making up 58 points in differential. 4. St. Joseph can clinch the 4th seed with a win, losses by Pittsburgh, Las Vegas and Richmond and making up 97 points in differential. 5. Pittsburgh/Kansas City/Las Vegas/Richmond/St. Joseph Probable seeds: 1. Denver 2. Clearwater 3. Cedar Rapids 4. Anchorage 5. Austin 1. Provo 2. Fort Wayne 3. Independence 4. Las Vegas 5. Pittsburgh (St. Joseph will beat Kansas City, and Pittsburgh will back in because of point differential despite losing to Fort Wayne. Tears.) OK, I think I got all that right. Maybe. |
Ugh - does not look good for Richmond. I need losses by Vegas and Kansas City tonight.
|
If Duluth had made the playoffs, we would likely have won the Sandbox Bowl. We're that talented.
|
That sucked. We gave up three defensive penalties on the final drive so they could score the winning touchdown with 4 seconds left. That personifies the Pillagers' season.
|
7th pick in the draft. Duluth is going to make some noise in the offseason.
|
Is points scored really the only tie breaker? Sucks to beat a team twice and miss playoffs tied with them just because of points.
|
POW, Anchorage. Right in the kisser. Smashed your mouth.
http://images.bluegartr.com/bucket/g...ee54517707.gif |
I'm really proud of that gameplan. Herm loved it, too.
This was magnificent: 13 plays, 77 yards, 12:03 (All CJ Spiller) Anchorage only ran 34 plays from scrimmage. |
So who do I play?
|
Well that was really frustrating. Two weeks in a row, I've had the ball with just over two minutes left while losing, and rather than go for it with the game on the line, I punt the ball. This time, I punted it away and gave up a first down because of a personal foul. In the real world, with the playoffs on the line, I've got to imagine that most coaches would go for it, even if it's a long shot.
|
8-8 missed playoffs... losing the last two weeks... ugh frustrating.
|
You guys are frustrated? Duluth went 6-10 despite having perhaps the best team in NFL history.*
*That's subjective, but we had such great locker room chemistry that I have to think it's true. |
Quote:
Even if you win that game, you're still a wild card soooo...yeah. |
Playoff seeds are set:
1. Denver 2. Clearwater 3. Cedar Rapids 4. Anchorage 5. Austin 1. Provo 2. Fort Wayne 3. Independence 4. Las Vegas 5. Pittsburgh First round: Anchorage vs Austin - can Austin's high powered passing game stand up against the relentless rush of Anchorage? Las Vegas vs Pittsburgh - Last Vegas is giving up 4.8 YPC. Can they stop the league's top rusher? |
Fort Wayne and independence had a help of a game in week two. Should be fun.
|
Here are my playoff predictions:
First round: Anchorage over Austin Pittsburgh over Las Vegas Second round: Denver over Anchorage as the sun turns into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord Spiller comes. Clearwater over Cedar Rapids. Pittsburgh over Provo in a stunning upset! Independence over Fort Wayne. Third round: Independence over Pittsburgh. Denver over Clearwater. Fourth round Independence over Denver. Yep, not trying to be humble or anything here. I beat Independence by the skin of my teeth early on and they are a better team now. So am I, but that is basically the ONLY team that has shut down my running game all year. I fear the Vision. |
Quote:
I like my team, but Fort Wayne and Provo are solid and I likely have to beat them both. I'll be surprised if I defend my Solar Conference Championship. |
Ya I beat them once should be able to again. Depends on Drew Brees will he show up?
|
I don't like Fort Wayne's OL against your pass rush.
A Provo-Independence matchup could be interesting. Provo has the best OL in Sandbox. However, I have a feeling Provo's run defense is going to let them down against Pittsburgh. |
I do, however, think Independence is the only team that can beat me.
I'd be 16-0 right now if I hadn't drawn up a 75% passing gameplan against St. Joseph. Arrogant words, but 29-3 in two years is dominant. |
If I make it, I got you beat for sure.

Somehow my defense has Alex D. Smith's number. I'm still pretty scared of facing you in the playoffs because let's face it...3x in one year is not gonna be easy. |

WC round is Tuesday. Rosters are available. The playoff seeds and match ups show on the league schedule as follows:
Playoffs Lunar Conference Playoff Seeds 1. Denver Broncos 2. Clearwater Donkeys 3. Cedar Rapids Angry Clam Hammers 4. Anchorage Roadkill Rabbits 5. Austin Armadillos Solar Conference Playoff Seeds 1. Provo Knuckledraggers 2. Fort Wayne Dukes 3. Independence Vision 4. Las Vegas Lonely Strippers 5. Pittsburgh Tacos Week 17 Wildcard Round Austin Armadillos at Anchorage Roadkill Rabbits Pittsburgh Tacos at Las Vegas Lonely Strippers It looks like email notifications went to everyone. They were only intended to go to those who have games scheduled in a given week. I'll work on it. |

I do think your St. Louis team would be a challenge.
Maybe we can get Cdcox to set up a fantasy sim if you take league 2 and I take league 1. |
Ya it might be a fun game. That offense vs my defense would be crazy.
|
Clearwater needs a coaching change.
They've lost 5 of 6 going into the playoffs including getting pretty much housed by a 2-13 team to wrap up the regular season (after having a 14-0 first quarter lead). Cedar Rapids needs to put these choking curs out of their misery. |
I'm guessing you're aware, but I got 3 emails (one each for weeks 17, 18 and 19) and all of them were blank where the sim day should have been.
For example: The week 17 lineup for Provo is available for game planning. Simulations will be run on . |

Fun fact: Austin beat Anchorage in an earlier matchup this year.
http://sandboxsimulations.com/index...._box_score/798 Clady can handle Von Miller, but JJ Watt may give Austin some problems. No Haloti Ngata is going to be a problem for Anchorage. Austin was 4th in YPC this year. This is going to be an interesting game. |
Quote:
But I've also been battling this offense all year it feels like. The O-Line just isn't as good as I thought it would be. I'd like to blame injuries, but there have been several elements of this team that have frustrated me. That said, I was at 9-2 before the Harvin loss caught up to me, so the injuries clearly have something to do with it. But as a GM, I made some mistakes that I'll have to figure out how to rectify in the offseason. |
Quote:
I just looked up my last six games in Duluth and realized why our season was painful. We were 6-4 going into Week 11 and then this happened: Week 11: Led 27-23 in the 4th quarter and gave up a winning punt return TD with 2:53 left. Week 12: Trailed 16-10 in the 4th, drove down to the 2-yard line and threw an interception on the last play of the game to lose. Week 13: Got blown out 38-3, but gave up three TDs on drives of less than 40 yards due to turnovers and no drives of more than 65 yards. Week 14: Lost 17-10 in a boring game. Week 15: Tied the game with 12 seconds left and then never touched the ball in OT, losing 30-27. Week 16: Led 21-16, gave up the winning TD with 2 seconds left to lose 22-21. |
Clearwater is a good team that needs a LT, and offensive skill positions that don't suffer season ending injuries.
Simple as that, IMO. Nothing to be ashamed of. I think Clearwater will be back strong next season. Getting MJD back from injury could be huge. Think of a MJD/CJ tag team backfield. |
The simulator is an especially cruel mistress...
|
Quote:
It didn't. I do think he'll take another step forward though and I'll be ready to go next year. I also think I need to deal with my interior run-blocking. CJ is boom or bust and that just doesn't work for me. All that said, long-term, I wouldn't trade my team for anybody's. You have a core that's as good/better than mine, but an aging QB. Maybe you can go out there and get Eli, but the QB market is a tough one to break into. For the next 5-7 seasons, I really like where I'm sitting. |
I'm probably going to do something stupid, like draft Geno.
