Mizzou is 4-0 in football and 14-0 in basketball since the move to the SEC was announced. Our SEC speed kicked in sooner than I expected.

Are people coming out to the games yet?

ROFL

MU would kill to have Self. Instead they made the brilliant idea to hire Snyder.

That was a great idea.

Mizzou wouldn't "kill" to have any basketball coach. I would take an awesome football assistant coach over a new head basketball coach, just like 90% of major D1 schools.

Basketball is fun to follow when football season is over.....unless of course you have the worst football program in the country.

I'd kill to have Nick Saban. There are at least 5 coaches I would rather have than Self, and I wouldn't kill for any of them because its basketball.

What is with KU's infatuation with Self, anyway? If Memphis could hit a free throw, KU fans would be calling for his head by now. Instead, he's a great coach because Rose choked at the line?

Self is a very good coach. He's not a great coach.

Coach K
Roy
Izzo
Calhoun
Donovan
Boeheim

Those are great coaches.

Maybe.

But...Self does have a better winning pct. than any of those coaches listed in the past 5 years...and a handful of conference championships.

Dartgod 01-04-2012 09:38 AM

CoMo is frustrated because with the Mizzou BB program on the upswing, he has to go back to the Snyder era for his smack talk.

Try comparing his tournament winning percentage to those guys. That's what seperates good coaches from great coaches. Izzo, K, Roy, and Calhoun get their mail delivered to the Final Four.

I realize the norm is some pretty obnoxious back and forth in all KU and MU topics but, as a long time KU fan I’ve really never felt much need to rehash the old talking points. MU looks very similar now to how they did at the same point last year except, in my opinion they are a year older, more experienced and would appear to be better coached. Well and English is playing 1000% better. The only potential trouble spot I see is a lack of size but, when you shoot lights out from the perimeter that keeps that from being much of an issue. KU took probably their least talented team in years and stuck them with their most difficult non conference schedule in a long time and MU their has most experienced and probably most talented team since?? Carroll was playing for uncle Mike and took an easy noncon.I think the KU guys probably needed the experience and MU probably not so much. I really don’t have a good handle on how this season will play out but I could see MU, KSU, Baylor, KU at the top and finishing in any order you could pull out of a hat. It should be fun.

You could say the same exact thing about the KU loss to Syracuse in the Finals. Had KU hit their free throws, they'd have another championship. Sometimes shit happens....and Memphis choking away that lead was more than just missed free throws.

Meh.

He has a winning percentage roughly .02 behind Coach Cal in the tourney...and we know how clean his great history is.

Didn't Roy miss the tourney a few years ago? Not dismissing him as a great coach...but just throwing that out their.

The opposition love to hang their hats on the "tourney chokes"...the mid-majors. They ignore having the most wins in the past decade. Longest consecutive tourney appearance and counting at the moment. All the conference championships. Beating a "Great Coach" in the final four...to beat another "Great Coach" in the championship game.

Bill self IS good.

So, Boeheim is a great coach because KU couldn't hit free throws, but Self isn't just because Memphis couldn't hit free throws.

I knew I shouldn't have come in here... LMAO

Really though, just stopped by to say, regardless of what anyone says about SoS, it's pretty refreshing to see a team that simply takes care of business every night. It's one thing to start 14-0, regardless of the number of highly ranked teams, and it's another to crush the opponent just about every night... takes a lot of focus, which is kind of rare these days. Enjoy it.

DeezNutz 01-04-2012 10:23 AM

Self is a great coach; this is ridiculous.

duncan_idaho 01-04-2012 10:30 AM

Self is a great coach and compares very favorably with anyone coaching college hoops today.

I'd take him over Williams in a heartbeat. The consistent excellence ku has exhibited during Self's tenure is of a much higher level than during Williams' tenure.

That said, I still can't quite believe the difference Haith and his staff have made in this team.

How they've turned Kim English into Shane Battier lite, I'll never understand, but the transformation is impressive.

Saturday will be a key test. If Missouri can force ksu to play small, the Wildcats will struggle.
