The MVP started in 1931. One for each league. So there's been 140 MVPs. You can name two guys out of 140 who won an MVP for a last place team?

OK, sure, Alex Gordon is a shoe in! I am convinced!! Hand me the kool aid!

Deberg_1990 08-09-2011 03:24 PM

Is Gordon really putting up MVP numbers? Hes been solid, but I don't know about MVP.

No. It was a demon post. But team MVP no doubt.

another deflecting post.

no one said he was a shoe in george.

A-Roid in 2003: .305 ave, 47 HRs, 118 RBI.

The Royals season is about 70% over. So if you take Alex's numbers, playing at his same current pace, and project out to year end:

.304 ave, 19 HRs, 76 RBI.

Of course, since Alex has been hitting lead off, his RBIs aren't what they'd be if he was hitting 3rd or 4th. A-ROD probably hit 3rd or 4th in the Texas lineup in 2003.

But nowhere near an MVP season. Royals MVP maybe...OK, probably... if (and a big IF) he stays healthy the rest of the year. But this is his first really decent all around season. He's still a disappointment for where he was drafted. He needs to string about three or four more years in a row like this one to get any serious notice. He couldn't even get picked as the team's All-Star this year.

Think A-Rod had 47 homers that year.

And he won MVP because everyone knew he'd be a Yankee in 2004, so all the East Coast Media voted for him.

You're not going to find too many other examples of the league MVP playing for a last place team. Got any more?

really?? He was actually traded to the Redsox but MLB shot down the trade.

Demonpenz 08-09-2011 03:47 PM

Gordon is on pace for 25 outfield assists....

Oh i figured he would struggle a bit.....most rooks do. But come on, 1 HR and .189 avg is pretty bad for anybody. It looks like he wasnt ready.

The kid absolutely mashed at AA and AAA last season with an 1.100 OPS at 21 no less. What more was he going to learn down there? Let him cut his teeth now and get ready when the team is ready to compete.

Aren't the Yankees and the Red Sox basically the same thing???
