Sweet. I hope.

We have nothing if not the youngest team in mlb.

I wonder how long he stays up. Could just be here long enough to let Pena see his kid born, or could stay the rest of the season. Certainly would be cool if he earned a stay up here.

The article suggests he will be up the remainder of the season. He was likely coming up in September anyways.

Yeah, but I think that's just speculation. I didn't see anything in there that indicated that info was from a team source.

Makes sense to get him everyday at-bats, though.

Thoughts on packaging some of these prospects for a front line starter next year or have most of the prospect lost a lot of value? Cain pretty much has to be moved this off season if we are going to keep Melky right?

Speculation I heard on the radio early this morning was that Pina will be sent back down when Treanor is ready to play, and that Perez will stay with the big league club the rest of the year.

And what becomes of Pena then? Surely we won't carry 3 catchers through August.

However, if Blake Wood is cut/waived/designated for assignment, then I have no problems with 3 catchers. Anyone but Blake Wood.

Woah! I should edit my previous post. This may deserve a thread on it's own though...

No.

Don't waive Davies.

He's a Red Sox killer.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. | Time ran out Wednesday morning on the Royals’ willingness to wait for right-hander Kyle Davies to develop into a reliable starting pitcher.

The Royals requested unconditional release waivers on Davies, 27, in order to clear space on their 40-man roster for the arrival of catcher Salvador Perez from Class AAA Omaha.

The move comes with Davies on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season because of arm problems. He was 1-9 with a 6.75 ERA this season in 13 starts.

Players can be released while on the disabled list. If claimed by another club, they remain on the disabled list for that club. But any club would also assume the balance of Davies’ $3.2 million salary – or roughly $900,000.

That makes it likely that Davies will clear waivers. Thereafter, he becomes a free agent who can be signed by any club for a pro-rated share of the major-league minimum salary of $414,000 – or roughly $115,000.

The Royals needed to make a move on their 40-man roster in order to add Perez prior to Wednesday’s game against Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field. Their active roster was down to one catcher, rookie Manny Piņa, after Brayan Peņa departed on paternity leave.

Veteran Matt Treanor remains unavailable because he is still recovering from a concussion suffered July 30 in Cleveland.

Perez, 21, is widely viewed as the organization’s top catching prospect, and he is expected to become the club’s regular big-league catcher upon arrival. He will wear No. 13.

Davies often flashed potential in his four-plus seasons after arriving July 31, 2007 in a trade from Atlanta, but he never displayed desired consistency. He went 29-44 with a 5.34 ERA in 99 starts for the Royals over portions of five seasons.
