Smith is a sneaky little signing. Sounds like a first-round talent who slipped a bit because he's not huge. He's kind of Dylan Bundy-lite. Doesn't throw as hard, but similar size/moxie/makeup.

Let's hope Brickhouse is a little more successful than the last classic RHP the Royals yanked away from North Carolina (Tim Melville).

It's crazy how many of these "unsignable" guys the Royals are landing. The system is about to get a serious infusion of high-upside young players.

Add these draft guys to Hernandez and Mondesi from Latin America and it's pretty exciting. We'll have two more young, talented shortstops in the system...and position of significant weakness throughout the dark days the last two decades.

So we basically signed two players for 1st round money (Starling and Brickhouse), and five players for 2nd round money (Gallagher, Smith, Leonard, Lopez, Junis). That is one hell of a way to build up the next wave of young talent.

All seven of them are high schoolers, and cost the Royals around $13 million.

Here is a nice write-up from Greg Schaum's website detailing how we have restocked the cupboard with this draft and our huge international signings.

Thank the Yankees. They've given the Royals over $30 million in Luxury Taxes.

Shame they spent some of that money. Should've just pocketed it and laughed at the fans while drinking blue rasbperrytinis.

I had some particularly nasty dentistry done to me this AM... so excuse me if I mumble....my face is still numb.

Hey, I'm glad they signed Bubba. They've slung around a sackful of green this year...around $13 million total...but they have the money to spend since our payroll is so low. I'm glad they're finally spending it. That's all good.

And if we keep losing this year, and pass Baltimore, we'll get the second pick behind Houston next year.

Don't get me wrong. Today is a good day, and one of the few days I feel a twinge of optimism for the Royals.

But a time is coming very soon where they need to put up or shut up.

Deberg_1990 08-16-2011 10:46 AM

So are they still on pace for 90-95 losses this season? Ive lost interest over the past month or two.
