Consider yourself lucky, I haven't seen prices like that since January, and of course OPEC quickly put the kibosh on that.

So this would be a good time to take a road trip to K.C.?

It's still way over $3 here. I thought I would drop off after Labor Day but it hasn't budged a bit.

I'm going to keep my Impala long enough to trade it for even value and then get something smaller; probably a Honda or a Toyota with a stick shift. I can't do anything about the prices, but I can damn sure control what I drive.

If you like buying gasoline at the lowest price of the year, yes.

Yeah, but you get that great climate to go along with your exorbitant gasoline taxes.

Oh, wait.

At least it's flat up here. That's probably good for mileage. :banghead:

In Chicago traffic, there's no way I would drive a manual. Better mileage be damned.

I've driven a car with a stick up here before. And I certainly did NOT like it. But I don't drive nearly as much now as I once did.

It's down to $2.39 a gallon here for regular. oh well.

I don't think it makes that much difference. Probably depends on which automatic you compare the stick shift to.

It's about 10% savings over an automatic on average, IIRC.

The reason I'm looking at a manual is for the speed factor. If I'm going to get a car with a smaller engine, I don't want one that'll take half an hour to pass somebody.

What kind of milage do you get with your Impala? I owned a 2003 Impala that got 30 mpg on the highway. Traded it for a Dodge Dakota that got 19 mpg right before the prices skyrocketed :cuss:

Many times I wished I had that Impala back. Roomy and good gas milage to boot. Anything that gets close to 30 mpg is ok to me.

At that, you would get 33 mpg rather than 30. Not a good tradeoff IMO.
