Easier than other positions, yeah.
That doesn't mean any 6th round guard you pick up can be your opening day starter.
And it also doesn't mean your 1st round guard is going to require no time at all to get acclimated to the position.
The entire benefit of re-signing Schwartz would have been that he was ready to play NOW at a level that isn't going to set the Chiefs offense back at all.
A rookie can't give you that guarantee. I don't care if he's the lovechild of Jerry Kramer and Steve Hutchinson
