Shag 08-15-2010 05:00 PM

I can't imagine trying to hit a shot through a tunnel of people like that...

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:01 PM

ROFL at the caddie backing way up.

Miles 08-15-2010 05:01 PM

A scroll said to switch to some random channel for PGA coverage. The ****ing Broncos game is on there as well.

kstater 08-15-2010 05:01 PM

It's got to suck to piss away two different majors in one year.

Shag 08-15-2010 05:02 PM

Johnson may have just played himself out of a playoff...

kstater 08-15-2010 05:02 PM

You've got 100 yards of green to work with...

kstater 08-15-2010 05:05 PM

Nice shot.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:05 PM

Yeah, that was sweet.

Low and short on a putt to win....

SPchief 08-15-2010 05:08 PM

HAHAHAHAHA LMAO

tk13 08-15-2010 05:08 PM

Ohhh man. After all that... couldn't hit the putt. Playoff time.

Shag 08-15-2010 05:08 PM

Poor effort on that putt...

Buck 08-15-2010 05:11 PM

Wait...did they say that Johnson grounded his club on the 2nd shot and that counts as a bunker shot so he is going to be eliminated?

They haven't said for sure, but it's a definite possibility.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:13 PM

That would be terrible.

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:13 PM

I don't know how you can say it's not a bunker

Buck 08-15-2010 05:14 PM

Thats gay.

There is grass in the sand. How can that be a bunker?

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:15 PM

In that area of the country, the grass is almost always on sand. If the crowd beats it down all weekend, it's just trampled grass, IMO.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:16 PM

Its hard to tell if he even grounded the club.

kstater 08-15-2010 05:16 PM

It's pretty clear he did.

tk13 08-15-2010 05:16 PM

That's tough, because if that is a bunker they were literally letting people stand in the bunker while he hit that shot...

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:17 PM

One would thinik he would clarify before grounding his club and if it was questionable (which it clearly was) that one of the marshalls would have let him know it.

No doubt. The chick in the blue shorts is sitting on the edge of it.

kstater 08-15-2010 05:19 PM

I think you'll find Johnson thought it was a bunker as he never took a practice swing behind the ball to test the conditions.

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:19 PM

I love the game, but golf has some stupid fricking rules

SPchief 08-15-2010 05:19 PM

Shouldn't they delcare before the tournement if it is a bunker or not?

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:19 PM

This is the ****ing bullshit of bullshit.

If your officials can't keep track of how many bunkers there are on the course (which no one can), and can't tell when 100 people are in one, you shouldn't be able to call it a bunker.

Stupid ****ing Pete Dye.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:19 PM

Okay, on that replay, he definitely grounded it the first time.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:20 PM

That area was so far away from the fairway...plus fans were standing on it. How can it be in play as a bunker?

kstater 08-15-2010 05:20 PM

Because the impression he left to the side of the ball with the heel of his club is pretty clear.

That replay there shows it quite clearly

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:20 PM

You wouldn't take a practice swing in that area b/c he didn't have a similar lie anywhere, and where he did, it was too close to risk moving the ball.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:21 PM

I hadn't seen that first replay yet where he set it down and brought it back up. I was talking about when he put his club behind the ball.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:22 PM

I routinely ground my club in a bunker...and occasionally even kick it out of the bunker and nobody says a word to me.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:22 PM

Looks like he is taking a penalty.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:22 PM

Looks like he's gonna get screwed.

tk13 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

And there it is. Brutal.

SPchief 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

BS

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

That's the biggest crock of shit in the history of golf.

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

he just got screwed with no lube

kstater 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

On a golf course that's got 1000 plus bunkers, I'm gonna find out if the sandy area in which my ball is setting is a bunker prior to grounding the club.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

****ing Jim Joyce piece of shit Golf Rules

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:23 PM

He should simply erase the 5 and put a  on the scorecard.

tk13 08-15-2010 05:24 PM

Imagine if he'd made that par putt. It's still brutal... but if he'd hit that putt and thought he'd won... then lost it on this... that would've gone down as a top 10 brutal moment in sports history.

kstater 08-15-2010 05:25 PM

He can look on the bright side, no one will remember his 82 now.

Shag 08-15-2010 05:25 PM

That's such bullshit. This is why people hate golf...

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:25 PM

If I'm Tim Finchem, I'm never holding another PGA event at this ****ing place ever again.

This is a ****ing disgrace. A disgrace.

There is no way you can tell that's a bunker, and if you can't keep people out of it, and they trample it down, it ceases to be a bunker. It's just a waste area.

Seriously, if people don't know how many bunkers are on the course, how can you make a definitive judgment about what is or is not a bunker?

This x 1,000,000

Buck 08-15-2010 05:26 PM

Go Bubba

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:28 PM

Sure there's a way you can tell. Ask the marshall that was standing 5 feet away

Miles 08-15-2010 05:28 PM

That completely just looked like some waste area. If it was a legitimate bunker wouldn't it look a hell of a lot better? When preparing for a major, stuff like failing to maintain a bunker doesn't happen.

Buck 08-15-2010 05:28 PM

There is nothing in the rules of golf that state how a bunker needs to be maintained.

Old Dog 08-15-2010 05:31 PM

C'mon Bubba

Who gives a shit about the rules, how about some pride in your golf course for a ****ing Major Championship?

tk13 08-15-2010 05:31 PM

You'd have to bet Johnson's not the first person this week to do this... he just did it with every camera in the world on him.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:31 PM

Does anyone even give a crap who wins this anymore?

He was the only person with 1,000 people standing within 5 feet of him in a bunker though.

He mentioned how it would be nice if the bunkers were kept nice.

You said there were no rules against that.

I said, who cares about the rules. They should have pride in their golf course and not let people stand and trample all over their bunkers, especially when they are hosting a prestigious tournament such as The PGA Championship.

Make sense?

And I'll reiterate. Bunkers are hazards. As such, there is nothing as to what the playability of the hazard should be.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:38 PM

I guarantee you that if you let the crowd trample any other area of that course over 4 days, it would eventually show sand. That whole area is sandy. The grass you see is on sand, it's just watered and cared for.

Yeah, and it wasn't clear that it was a hazard. It just looked like a really tramped area, thats the problem.

This is not true.

Decision (14-3/36) directly states that you can have the sand in a bunker raked.

Furthermore, if there are cigarette butts, water bottles, trash, or other man-made objects in the bunker, you are entitled to have them removed.

Garcia Bronco 08-15-2010 05:44 PM

Oh Dustin, we you go down; you go down in flames.

CaliforniaChief 08-15-2010 05:44 PM

http://www.sheboyganpress.com/articl...Straits-course

It's an article on the groundskeepers at this course. And they basically talk about how hard it is to grow fescue and keep the greens green and removing sand from the grass. Because it's all on sand. If you've ever been to Lake Michigan (either side), you know this. Johnson got screwed (that's what she said)

Garcia Bronco 08-15-2010 05:46 PM

It's a hazard and he can't ground hid club in a hazard. It sucks but it'll make Johnson better.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:56 PM

Again, if you can't ****ing count how many bunkers are on the course, if the architect himself is off on the numbers by several hundred (check the August '10 issue of Golf Digest), and there aren't any reasonable stances as to what constitutes a bunker, how could that area, which housed dozens of spectators, be considered a bunker??

If that was a waste area, he wouldn't be entitled to having it raked, but it wasn't.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:58 PM

You only get so many chances in majors, just ask Sergio, Greg Norman, or a similarly-aged Seve at the '86 Masters.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 05:59 PM

Buck 08-15-2010 05:59 PM

I'm just saying if a pro PGA golfer can't tell its not a bunker right away, then maybe it should be kept a little nicer.

'Hamas' Jenkins 08-15-2010 06:00 PM

FWIW, I guarantee that if it had been Tiger or Phil at 18, or if Johnson had made that putt on 18, those rules officials don't consult him on 18.
