This may be one of the most frustrating wins I can remember, but it's still a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

There were many checkdown opportunities and he would have made the TD pass to Hill. Foles has no awareness of underneath routes and his footwork is horrible so he throws 100mph on the off chance he does see a WR open underneath. There were a few replays where the commentator pointed out West coming open in the flats and Foles just ignored them.

Smith would have completed 65-70% of his passes and would have had at least 2 TDs that game. I mean shit, we didn't even have one real drive all game, that's pathetic.

Even if that was a TD by Ivory, the Chiefs should have had 1st and goal at the 1 from the no call PI on Kelce. It's a wash.

The pass I'll give Foles is the pass to Kelce to start the game. Other than that one pass, Alex could have made every other pass he made and would have been more efficient and would have noticed the checkdowns.

What same bullshit? Smith regularly throws for 65%+ of his passes. He's the "checkdown master" so he would have seen many of the underneath stuff Foles missed. As of late he has been more aggressive throwing downfield. He avoids mistakes that Foles was lucky to get away with today. He's mobile and would have either got first downs with his feet or extended plays instead of being a sitting duck in the pocket.

Anything there that's an excuse?

Only thing I have to say about Bortles is that his receivers don't do him any favors.

That one guy made no effort to catch a ball that was completely catchable.

Glad Chiefs won.

I'm not sold on Foles but he is a backup for a reason did just good enough with excuses that he was missing several starters on offense but I think he could have done better and we wouldn't have given the Jags an opportunity to win.

I've never used the "it's all about wins" shit so I don't know why you're using it with me. Smith is just better and more consistent. Weapons or no weapons he hits the underneath plays which were open today. He would have played better than Foles today. His mobility and ability to hit checkdowns tells me so. It's not like Foles was just killing it downfield or anything Smith can't do. He was bad pretty much all around.

Had two passes that really should have been INT'd, so he could have been worse.. but yeah, he looked like a rusty backup, and he had enough moments to keep that QB2 job.

Held on to the ball too long and took the 13 yard sack. Stupid throw almost picked by the safety playing CF. Blind to the underneath. No ability to scramble. No increase in scoring. Terrible footwork. Lower completion percentage. 1, I repeat ONE 3rd down conversion.

But his 1st pass to Kelce was sweet.

The trade offs aren't even close to taking Foles over Smith

Gotta love the kid. I'll even let today slide as long as it doesn't end up getting him sitting for a game.

Meatloaf 11-06-2016 04:18 PM

It's not like Foles had a plethora of playmakers at his beck and call. Losing Maclin early was huge. And then Kelce removed himself from the game later. Plus, Mssrs Ware and Charles were nowhere to be found. So, Foles was dealt a weak hand in that regard.

Not suggesting that Foles had a good game, because he didn't. Nonetheless, he was definitely limited by his offensive support.

Pretty clear too that this avoided the dreaded "QB Controversy" that was brewing. So, we got a win, avoided a controversy, added to Foles game day experience in this system. All in all, and ugly but somewhat productive day.

PS. This team is physically beat up. Let's hope Smith and Ware are back next week and that Maclin's injury isn't a multi-week affair.

Easy 6 11-06-2016 04:21 PM

With Foles, I'm going to echo what Virus said earlier... there needs to be a happy medium

He was going for broke the entire first half, and was lucky to have not been picked on at least one occasion... Reid settled him down in the second half and he started looking for the medium throws and checkdowns, but still... no QB can run an effective offense constantly going deep

-King- 11-06-2016 04:21 PM

Longest pass today: 24 yards. It was a screen pass.

DEEP BALLS!

Anyong Bluth 11-06-2016 04:21 PM

When he only wants to throw to guys running a Go route, Hill was the only playmaker he needed.
