The original was actually on Turner Classic Movies recently.

I haven't seen either one, though.

I had no idea there was an original before Pacino's version.

The original came out in 1932. You would probably have to be quite the movie buff to know it.

Cagney was the original back in the 40's IIRC.

Even after 40+ years it's still my #1 and then in the 80's Copolla released a VHS set called The Godfather The Complete Epic which was parts 1 & 2 shown chronologically and edited footage added back in.The viewer even gets to see Hyman Roth as a young man when he was first introduced to Vito.

I have the Epic on Laserdisc. Searched high and low to find it. :D

Paul Muni played Scarface and the movie was based on prohibition,Stone updated it to the Cuban influx in Miami and the cocaine wars.

Heh, Ed Begley Jr. was on WTF this week, talked about his parents hanging out with Paul Muni when he was a little kid.

That guy has been in the LA actor scene for fricking ever. Had a standup buddy act with Michael Richards in the late 60s, yeah, that Michael Richards. Smoked weed with Charlie Manson. Far out shit.

That last bit. Holy shit, when he finally breaks down and starts talking about how he could have saved more people. That just wrecked me. Is that when the guys quotes the Talmud, "Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire"?

I found the Lebowski character itself to be annoying. Still enjoyed the movie.
