Yeah that will definitly scare away a lot of people, but once you start to watch it its pretty intense. I have talked some of my friends into watching it and they all really liked it.

Are you talking about the 4 hour directors cut or the original theatrical version??

Here's a review for you check out the list of actors and enjoy once you find it.

Don Siegel brings his tough worldview and crisp, no-nonsense direction to this quintessential World War II drama of an undermanned American platoon in France holding off a German advance through sheer bluff and bravery. Steve McQueen is curt and surly as the insubordinate loner whose tactical skills and soldiering savvy make him indispensable to his new unit. His reputation precedes him, but commander Fess Parker is in no position to be choosy when he learns that his tired platoon will not be shipping home as rumored, but tossed into a ragged new offensive. Harry Guardino costars as the soulful Sarge; James Coburn is the slow-talking, forever-tinkering mechanic; Bobby Darin is the scavenger with a small fortune in trinkets; and Nick Adams is the Polish orphan and unit mascot. Bob Newhart makes his feature debut as a hopelessly lost typing clerk drafted into the undermanned unit and re-creates his nightclub shtick making phony phone calls near a Nazi listening post in the pillbox. Like Pork Chop Hill, this film is less a patriotic flag waver than a "war is hell" drama that frames the battle not in its tactical importance (which is negligible) but in its cost in human life. McQueen's taciturn performance as a ruthlessly effective soldier and Siegel's tough, lean direction make it a modest classic of the genre. --Sean Axmaker

For best Battle scene in a movie. It would be hard to top the nearly 40 minute Pearl harbor attack in "Pearl Harbor" The movie was mostly crap, but that battle scene was MONEY!

I'm not much on war movies for some reason. Appocolypse Now and Saving Private Ryan would have to be my two favorites.

The 4 hour directors cut...I cant imagine much being cut from it. The DVD of it is pretty nice as well. There is also a longer version thats about 5 hours that got released not long ago. Though i havent seen that one yet.

I think you are thinking of Von Ryans Express. He highjacks a train with a bunch of POW's and they try to make it to the border.

Count me in for

Patton
The Big Red One
The Longest Day
The Guns of Navarone

I would normally put Blackhawk Down but the movie just makes me angry sometimes. And I admit I get choked up when they cant stop the bleeding in that guys leg and the last thing he says is to tell his wife and kids he did a good job or something like that.

Kelly's Heroes is good for a laugh..."whats with all the negative waves Moriarty??" "This tank is JUNK!!! There is fuel leaking everywhere!!!"

Patton
Dr. Strange Love
Gettysburg
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan

I love the scene in Gettysburg when Col. Gamble tells Gen. Bufford that there are about 70 thousand men coming towards them and they hope to hold them off with their 2 thousand until Gen. Reynolds arives with the infantry.

Gamble to Buford: "Damn sure glad the rain stopped, wouldn't want anything to slow down Reynolds"

All Quiet on the Western Front
The Green Berets
12 O'Clock High
In Harms Way
Saving Private Ryan
We were Soldiers
Midway
Torra, Torra, Torra

And probably many more I just can't think of right now. Yes, I'm a history buff!
