Uh. First. Take the keys off.
They sometimes take a little 'forcing.' I usually use a flathead screwdriver. Once the keys are off, it's ok to soak in water. Get the water extremely hot though, so it dilutes the sugar (other wise you'll just be getting it wet and the sugar won't come off).
Don't let it sit for too long though, or the motherboard will get soaked. As soon as you take it out, you need to dry it off immediately (but not just the outside. It's the motherboard that you need to get dry). It's best to use the oven (but not directly on the oven rack) a pizza stone or anything else that is non-sticky will do fine. Put in at 350 for no more than 5 minutes.
If you don't have a non-stick sheet or pizza stone, you can use the microwave, but you can't put it in for that long (duh) or it will melt. Two or three rounds of 1 minute a piece should get it nice and dry.
Now you just put the keys back on (kind of time consuming). Also, you can clean the keys while they are off by soaking them in a mixture of bleach and regular laundry soap. Just mix that up in the sink while you running the hot water over your keyboard...
Good luck, and PM me if you have any questions.
