How far behind the stag was the hunter standing when the picture was taken? The stag being considerably closer to the camera than the hunter will give the illusion of something being a lot bigger than it is. That's why most people that take pics of a big fish caught, will hold it way out in front of them for the picture.

He has no reason to fake the photo. I doubt he even has the means.

Again, I'm sure the picture is real but it gives the illusion that the stag is a lot larger than it really is.
