Watch out they could be inexperienced, well yeah... so could any other player we take. We've determined this a long time ago, we could get Ryan Leaf or we could get John Elway, we know this! The difference between Matt Stafford and Sam Bradford might be catostrophically different, however I'm hoping that both are viable NFL QBs.

While I agree it didn't deserve a new thread, he's right...

The fanbase will absolutely crush whoever plays QB if they don't compare to Ryan or Flacco.

It will be identical to the rebuilding issue.

People were on board, until the season started, and it was obvious we weren't winning games in 2008.

Same will be true of the QB issue. People want a QBOTF, but very, very few are willing to be patient enough (3-4 years) to see him fully develop.

We're in total agreement, but you know damn good and well that we're in the minority.

You have people saying that a QB should get 3 years to develop, and then those same people saying Thigpen SHOULDN'T get three years because he can't be "fixed" in three years.

What do we owe a waiver wire project QB, when KC can get a franchise QB with 3rd pick overall? Thigpen will have to battle for the job, because settling for a " good enough" QB who chokes in the second half of games is just idiotic.

No one owes anybody anything.

And Path isn't suggesting anyone settle.

He's asking why people who aren't willing to give Thigpen time to develop think they can have patience for a rookie QB?

Well which is it? In the previous post you said that everyone would make excuses, then you say the fan base will crush him.....

People were on board for the rebuild, but you don't have to set NFL worst records and Team records to rebuild, fans saw that it was not going in the right direction and knew it was time for change.

Don't know who will be available
but saying they SHOULD take a QB
this is insane

Path and you both know why.

Thigpen: Has to play in a spread, can't read defense, very inaccurate, horrible long ball, and other problems.

He just doesn't have enough up side at this point to waste time on him. He will make a fine back up, more than anyone, including himself probably ever expected.

Chiefs you are on the clock
the card says the Chiefs select: QB

Manila-Chief 01-03-2009 12:21 PM

Depending upon who gets the GM job ... if it's Bradway ... it doesn't matter coz it will be business as usual with the Chiefs.

If the GM is one of the 3 or 4 mentioned previously (from a winning organization), after he/his new coach evaluates Thigpen, I trust him to make the decision. I tend to think that Thigpen does not have the potential of a true QBOTF, but I admit this is a GM/talent scout/coaching decision and not mine. So, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

That being said, the opportunity to take a top flight QB only happens rarely (at least I hope we show progress next year and do not have this opportunity next year … if not we are in trouble with both new GM/Coach and in that case it will not matter who they draft). If one of the 3 QB’s are available, I think we should seize the opportunity and take him. Seems like that doubles our possibility of having a quality QB. If Thigpen develops into the next Elway, then we can trade the drafted guy. If Thigpen gets hurt, we have another in the wings.

Someone mentioned wasting a pick if the QB is another Ryan Leaf … you mean like Ryan Sims??? Point, there are draft pick misses at all positions. We have used journeymen QB’s for way too long. If the GM/staff determine there is a legit QBOTF, I hope they pick him. As has been said above, if they hit on this pick, it will set us up at that position for well over a dozen years. Course, the next question (as to his success) who will be his coach/QB coach? But, that is the subject of another thread. But, as I reflect … Elway/Manning/Breeze didn’t need a “special” coach to become successful. Elway/Breeze were under at least 2 different coaches. Yeah, I recognize none was a Curl!!!!!!!!!!

Sanchez has not been mentioned much. But, I liked what I saw of him in the Rose Bowl. He might be the best of all 3????

Now, in passing, if a team wants to trade and give us their draft (aka NO for Ricky), I’m all for that as well. But, an Elway/P. Manning just might be worth a whole draft????

You don't know what his upside is, he's played 11 games.

Everything on your list can be corrected with proper coaching. And honestly, I'm tired of the assumption that he HAS to play in the spread. When he was given significant time in the PS (against Arizona, and not running the spread) he did a decent job. 59% - 174 yards - 1/1 TD/INT in a half of play. We're running the spread for the sake of the OL and offense in general - not completely because Thigpen CAN'T operate a pro-style offense.

Again, I'm NOT saying the kid should be given the starting job.

But it's pretty obvious that the biggest issues people have with him is that he's a 7th round pick and that his biggest success has come from a "gimmick" offense.

Sorry, Smitty - but I call bullshit.

Everyone KNEW who the coach was going to be to lead this "rebuilding" when we signed off on it.

Had the fans been OK with it, THEN Herm was brought in, it would all make sense. But you can't say "I'm OK with rebuilding" then say you're not because the coach is a ****ing dolt. We knew that going in.

I disagree.

I was, and still am, behind the rebuild, and I even gave credit to Herman ****ing Edwards for initiating the process.

However, it has never been any secret that I never had faith from the start in either Carl or Herman ****ing Edwards.

They did the right thing, they were just the wrong people doing it.

I feel the same way, and you and I aren't the people I'm talking about.

The fact is, most of the people here, with any sign of intelligence, which leaves people like Chiefsfan88 out, never really complained about the direction of the team.

They did, however, complain about the piss poor coaching these young guys have been subjected to.

the Talking Can 01-03-2009 12:46 PM

herm and the rebuild are separate things

and we aren't rebuilding in any meaningful, structured way until we commit to a QB, which we haven't yet...

Herm is just a shitty coach who hires shitty assistants...the sooner they are gone the better for our "rebuild"....
