Didn't I see a thread last night saying the Chiefs denied Detroit the opportunity? I guess I should go back and read that.

Gunther is the ultimate team guy. He won't ever call out his coach publicly. And, in reality, he will always work to make his head coach happy, even if it goes against what he believes in. But, the reality is that he was handcuffed more in 2005 than he was under Herm Edwards.

If you look at the games, and the plays that they ran, they were MUCH more conservative in 2005. It wasn't until after they were pretty much eliminated fromt he playoffs that DV let Gunther do his thing.

I don't expect you to agree with me. It is public perception that DV just let him do what he wants.

But, if you go back to the 2005 preseason, DV said that he was working with Gunther to remove the plays that were a little to aggressive and not 'fundamentally' sound.

DV used the 2004 season as his justification. I think it was a little unfair given the injuries to the linebacking corps in 2004. And, given that Gunther's defense is heavily dependent on linebacker 'fits', it was a recipe for dissaster.

Anyways, I think Gunther will do a good job in Detroit. I am sorry to see it not work out here.

There is no way we are keeping Herm if we are letting all his guys go. No freaking way.

WTF? Gun through Vermeil and Saunders under the bus.

Buehler445 01-21-2009 08:30 AM

That started my day off better.

I'm sooooo glad I'm not a Detroit fan. First they want to hold out for McCoy and Tebow, now they get Gun. Someone should check on BarrySmilez.

I did not read the whole thread( at work) but NFL Sirius still reporting Lions denied permission to speak to him during the 2 min drill.(god i hope they are wrong or slow)

BigOlChiefsfan 01-21-2009 08:31 AM

Good luck, Gunther. Good luck, Detroit.

How? I've heard a few people on here claim that but they have never ever said what exactly Gun said that would make you think he threw anyone under the bus.
