No, I didn't bother inviting them.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. Nobody in my family knows what I'm doing, so they shouldn't be surprised if I sent out graduation announcements.

It would have to be in something they would never need, though, so no law school or medical school. How about maybe a Ph.D. in medieval art history?

And do you think they'd still send money if the graduate is in his 40s? I'm not in this for congratulation cards.

Have you considered faking an illness? You could get a sandwich tray delivered to your spouse or something like that. The only other thing that comes to my mind is faking a "major award" from an award-granting institution, that may or may not exist.

Wait just a minute. You may be on to something here. We're closing in on our 20-year anniversary.

And now that you mention it, we eloped, so we didn't get any gifts the first time around other than our parents. Maybe it's time to fill in that gift gap.

Tell them you're the new poet laureate and then direct them to your entries on poetry.com.

They're sure to be impressed.

Oh, so he's a gay then.

That's all you had to say. If I had a daughter I'd want her to go to prom with a Perez Hilton type myself.
