There are two sides to every view and debate is always possible. With that in mind I don't understand why some people spend the vast majority of their time focusing on what the team does wrong. It seems like a lousy way to enjoy sports.

Right now, I watch the Chiefs like the wisenheimers on Best Week Ever watched pop culture.

A little shocked, a little titillated, a little outraged, a little wistful, but overall enjoying the hot mess.

Which is my roundabout way of saying I'm about as emotionally invested in the fortunes of Haley and Cassel as I am the sanctity of Paris' and Lindsey's Hey-neener-neeners.

I am definitely more realistic but hate when the Chiefs lose. A win is more important than a draft pick to me.

verbaljitsu 01-12-2010 09:36 AM

What exactly is the point of being a sports fan if you are going to be an anti-homer?

SenselessChiefsFan 01-12-2010 09:50 AM

There are so many 'realists'. Reality is skewed by perception. Which gets back to the basic question at hand. Homer or Anti Homer.

To me, the two terms that originate the discussion are somewhate misleading. Perhaps it should be Chiefs' optimist and Chiefs' pessimist. We are all homers in that we want the Chiefs to win.

But, every 'reality' is skewed by our perception. Take Matt Cassel. Clearly, he underperformed this year. However, the 'reality' in my mind is that he had three offensive coordinators in eight months, he had a lack of talent around him, and the Chiefs set the all time drops record. While these facts do not absolve him of blame, the should be at least mitigating factors.

There are other topics as well, such as Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, cutting Bernard Pollard, the coaching of Todd Haley, etc.

One would think that a 'realist' would tend to fall on one side for one topic (as in the Chiefs made the right move) and the other side for other topics. (as in the Chiefs made a mistake)

However, the self described realists often fall on the same side of every argument.

The 'reality' is that the difference between a 4-12 team and a 10-6 team is much smaller than the average fan can realize from their couch. It is the little things, like dropped passes. Missed blocking assignments, etc. The actual reality is that the disparity in talent isn't the main culprit, it is the disparity in attention to detail, and concentration.

Anyways, we are all Homers in that we want the Chiefs to win. And, it would get old if every move by the Chiefs was met with unbridled enthusiasm and acceptance. However, if you think you are a realist and every move the Chiefs make is a bad decision, or every move the Chiefs make is for the best.... YOU ARE NOT A REALIST!

I tried to be pleasant and accommodating, but my head hurt from his homerism. I almost didn't notice it had happened, but I suddenly threw up all over him. He was not pleased, and I couldn't stop laughing.

I had to be that way when SU hired robinson.I just didn't have time to reason with them. But I did refrain from blowing lunch.

This board has far too many head up Clark Hunt's ass homers and it is pathetic and sickening.

People who are willing to tolerate losing deserve the shit that has been put forth from One Arrowhead Drive the past few years.

HotRoute 01-12-2010 11:37 AM

it seems like a lot of people are homers during the offseason hoping for the best and wanting changes made. But then during the season they're calling for heads, hoping for loses so we get better draft picks and hoping our coach loses his cool and beats the crap out of niswanger for F'n up every other play.

I put down that i am a homer, since ive been called that quite a few times on here, but i dont really look at it as a bad thing

HotRoute 01-12-2010 11:40 AM

anti homers are just fans with a stick up their ass. they dont really give a shit either way, since even when the chiefs win they still point out the shit that went wrong. they would probably all be better off just not watching sports and going fishing or hunting so they can find some peace in their lives. Hating on the chiefs has never made them a better team

Inspector 01-12-2010 11:44 AM

I'm a homer.

Until the drugs wear off.

And blindly following the Chiefs and selling out Arrowhead for 18 years has really worked out well... right?

Zero playoff wins since '94.

Because playing in a half full stadium and having your own fans boo you and screaming how you should all be fired will won us that playoff game. . . Right?

Of these options I'm an anti-homer, clearly. I would just call myself realistic. If my teams were giving me anything good to defend about them then I would defend them. This mindset does not prevent me from enjoying a decent performance by a bad team; watching Charles destroy the Broncos was very satisfying.
