I wouldn't give up on him. A lot of the folks there are NOT behaving badly. Even after most of the city has been flattened.

The prior history of the country is well documented. The abject poverty as well as the violence described by your father makes for a very sad and scary place. But it's almost too easy to judge from our relatively cozy bearth. To have any grace under that kind of pressure is an extraordinary thing.
