Ankiel will close when Soria has a tired arm per DM

Wow. You have to be kidding. Guy put up a .285 OBP last year.

And? /dayton/

Hey, it's not like they traded Greinke for him. It's a nice low-risk move with potential for him to hit a few dingers.

No it's more like:

"What's OBP?"

Ankiel has always been a guess hitter. He's never been able to consistently hit the fastball, and that, combined with his lack of discipline, makes him a walking strikeout.

It sucks that he fell apart the way that he did, because he's one of the most physically gifted pitchers of the last 20 years, but it was time for him to leave St. Louis.

I wish him the best of luck in KC, but I can't imagine this is going to end well.

DeezNutz 01-22-2010 02:00 PM

...and it's probably our best signing of the off-season.

(intended to be the punchline)

Uhh, it's the Royals. It will end up exactly how you're guessing.

I will say, in Ankiel's defense, his hitting coach the last 2+ years was Hal McRae, who was one of the worst ****ing hitting coaches in the history of the world.

Our only good hitters were the ones who don't listen to what he says (Pujols, Rasmus, Holliday, etc.)

I hope this is a joke because unless you have forgotten we signed Jason Kendall. :(

No, the joke is that a poor-marginal move might easily be the best (though I think Thompson might be a decent addition when the dust clears).

Trust me, I haven't forgotten that we're headed into '10 with 3 of the worst everyday players in the show, and that we actually went out of our way to acquire these sacks of shit.

Totally baffles me how anyone does NOT want Dayton fired. Glass has agreed to spend more money, which is great and all, but we have an absolutely clueless GM.

And this extends to his (new!) philosophy in the draft.

This is the part that just absolutely crushes my spirit. I remember having such high hopes for DM. I really was fooled into thinking we might turn the corner.

The guy's a choke artist headcase, hiding his myriad of issues behind a great throwing arm. I'm glad the Cardinals finally cut the cord - they wasted years developing and then redeveloping this clown.

this

The Cardinals gave him the benefit of the doubt for alonggggg time.
I wish him well.
