This was Keely. Smartest dog I've ever known. Athleltic as all get out too. She loved the frisbee more than any treat I could possibly offer. You have a great pup there.

Yep.

Had one growing up, and will have at least one for as long as I'm physically able to meet the exercise needs/demands of the breed.

Buehler, congrats on the new dog.

Herding dogs are smart as ****, but you need to make sure to give it plenty of exercise, otherwise it will become bored and be an ENORMOUS ****ing pain.

And you'll wonder why, and the answer will be you: You will be the problem.

Thanks.

I can vouch for the smart bit.

Yesterday wife leaves me a voicemail that says Chief got out and she had to lock him in the kennel. So I say to myself, "OK, WTF is he getting out?" So I walk him and put him in the yard and then watch him to see what he does. So he plays around for a bit then figures it out that I'm not coming back. So he calmly walks over to the fence and shimmies under a low spot. I run out to try to stop him, he's gone. I run around the backside of the yard looking for him, gone. ****. So I run back around the front of the house looking for him. He's sitting nicely outside of the front door waiting for me to come back out. Smart little shit.

He just wants to be around people so much. If you go out there and sit down, he will just crawl in your lap and love on you forever. He's a good doggie.

I'm amazed at how much he has learned in the 3 days we've had him. He may soon be smarter than me. :) Exercise I think is OK, for now. We walk the shit out of him. Plus he has a decent size yard for his size. Once he gets a little bigger, knows where home is, and comes a little better, I'm going to start taking him out to the farm and let him run to his heart's content. So hopefully I can make a good life for him.

And no. It has to be outside, but we stick him in the garage when it is cold.

Dude that thing isn't going to go roust up your ducks for you. :D

A former roomate of mine had a heeler. It bit a kid down the street so he found someone with a farm that could take it. No way a working breed like that should be cooped up in the city with a lazy stoner for an owner.

No ducks around here. Just pheasant. And within the last 5 years, turkeys.

I don't have much time for hunting, unfortunately. It hits during the busy time of the year.

had an Australian shepherd. Lived on the farm chasing cows abd riding atop stacks of ay in the truck. Lucky dog.

Cool dog! :thumb:

My neighbor had an Australian Shepherd too. He was a mean dog unless you threw the ball for him. I think he became that way b/c the neighbor brats would throw rocks at him. It was sad that he became mean and didn't trust anyone except for his family.

That sucks shit. I hate the mistreatment of dogs.

Ours was a pound puppy, so it may have some issues, but he's young, so I think we can love him enough to give him a good happy life.

He's definitely my boy though. I went to see how he was doing tonight. It was pretty dark and I was being quiet. I came to his shed, and he was just inside the door and started growling at me. Then I said, "hi Chief" and he came running out like I was the cure. He's my boy :)

Buehler445 03-03-2010 10:42 PM

Oh, and nice to see you back Lumpy.

You're my boy, blue (healer)!

Sorry. I'll go punch myself for trying to make that work.

I'm w/ you about ppl mistreating animals. Unfortunately, these were neighbor kids and who knows how those little ratbastards turned-out. They're prolly in prison. I chased one kid down the street when I saw him tormenting the dog. Kids will be kids, but something is seriously wrong w/ kids that are cruel to animals.

On a happier note, it definitely sounds like you have a good friend there, Buehler! :thumb: Congrats!
